Eh. This is why I tend to shy away from novella length books. Some authors manage to write an entire, fully rounded little story in the length. But my experience with novellas has more often than not been that I've felt that a lot of story is missing. That is the case with this book. I actually a...

There is a reason why Lisa Kleypas is a New York Times Bestseller. For those of you who read historical romances, I’m sure you are aware of Kleypas’s amazing Wallflowers and Hathaways series. Kleypas is simply the queen when it comes to historical romance. Her cunning wit and endearing characters j...

Magical Realism or Not?Yes, I do think Kleypas 'blew a kiss toward' magical realism in Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor in the first toy store scene (an enchanted place for everyone) when Maggie gives Holly the shell and tells her she can talk into it and it may help her to speak when she’s ready. While I didn't really enjoy reading this book I received via First Reads, it wasn't a bad book. Nothing about it made me want to walk away from it, but neither did anything really beg for me to continue. Reading through to the end just seemed the easiest thing to do. Small business owner Mark Nola...

Almost a 3.5 star.My rating was knocked down for:Hero's involvement with another woman through a lot of the book.Story was too short causing a rushed feeling. And the price of the book.Still, it was a sweet story with likable characters and because of my OCD tendencies, I'll read the rest of the seri...
