"See the Cat? See the Cradle?"Cat's Cradle is a distillation of every human frailty and stupidity into a deformed caricature that once consumed unfolds into a stunning and painful realism. Satire in Vonnegut's hands isn't comical or hilarious as some claim it is sneering and savage. I can see why th...

If you asked me what my favorite Vonnegut book is, the answer would depend on what day it is. Today is Wednesday, so Cat's Cradle is my favorite novel by Vonnegut. It is one of his funniest. It's one of his most truthful despite that it is full of lies. It's one of his most cheerful which is weird c...

A fun and witty read. I didn't know what to expect going in, but after realizing it was satire, I found it to be quite good. The story was quite far-fetched, even aside from the ice-nine, but it was funny, with witty writing. Bokotanism was great!

Kurt Vonnegut's best novel. Better than Slaughter House 5.

What is it about Vonnegut's authorial voice? It's simultaneously wry and tender, sarcastic and gentle. I don't know of any other authors that can manage that particular combination. And here, writing about the end of the world in so many different ways, it is on full display. The narrator is a journ...

One of the first books I remember being 'required' to read in school (Middle School to be exact) happened to be Slaughterhouse-Five. Looking back, even though I had been reading at a college level since I reached double-digit age, I probably wasn't ready for the subject matter. Come to think of it...

I'm not sure what I think of this yet. Vonnegut is great fun to read, and eminently quotable, and makes what at least seems like excellent philosophical points...but is there really much to those points? Is there a lot going on under the surface here? That's what I'm gonna have to mull over for a wh...

This book has been reviewed far too many times by people who think their opinions are more significant than this story, which long ago soured me on reading others' reviews. I really just want here to say I have been a fan of Vonnegut since high school, but had never read this book. No plot spoilers...
