3.75 stars. I read this book on the recommendation of Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches' Guide to Romance Novels. The intelligent, practical heroine and ultra-alpha hero hit my historical romance sweet spot. I've kind of outgrown this genre, but back in the day I would have loved this.

Honoria's character is inconsistent. I imagine it's to show that passion interferes with her otherwise calm and competent nature, but the writing doesn't convince me. There's a lot of sex - I must have skimmed almost a quarter of the book - but Laurens mixes it up and doesn't seem to repeat herself....
