Honoria's character is inconsistent. I imagine it's to show that passion interferes with her otherwise calm and competent nature, but the writing doesn't convince me. There's a lot of sex - I must have skimmed almost a quarter of the book - but Laurens mixes it up and doesn't seem to repeat herself....

Ho hum. Charming enough writing to compensate for a loathed trope ("Oh! I have a dreadful trauma in my past that led me to making this firm vow that keeps us from being together! Nothing else hinders us any more, so I will cling to this vow like nobody's business! ...okay now I'm done with that vow!...

It's fun seeing the rakish hero pursue the modest spinster. Devil is pretty irresistible though, so she doesn't hold out for too long. Very nice story of the lovers adjusting to being married.Only 99 cents at Amazon.

2 StarsI will freely admit it...i skimmed through a large portion of this book. I have nothing against an uber-Alpha male if written in the right way, but there was just something about Devil Cynster that REALLY bugged me right from the beginning. Yes, he was darkly brooding and handsome. Yes, he ca...

3 1/2 stars for me. There were things about this book I loved and some things, not so much. It felt like it was about 100 pages too long. There were just a bunch of small things that just were unnecessary to the plot or story. It felt like a lot of patchwork. What was the point of the family she cam...

I am rereading books from years past that I love. Stephanie Laurens Cynster Series is one of my favorites. The Devil Duke was the best. She has many that have sprouted from this series and I have them all. Devil The Duke of St Ives is the head of a rather large family. Him, his brother and his cousi...

Any romance that has me grinning regularly gets 5 stars. I mean...the cake-eating demon horse?? Love it.

If I didn't have to read this book as part of a reading group two-fer challenge, I would never have finished it nor would I have gone on to read the second book in the series A Rake's Vow which was similarly underwhelming (actually it was worse) imo.I didn't give this a full on disliked it one-star ...

Did not finish. The heroine is TSTL, the hero and the rest of the male Cynsters are over-the-top alphas, and the murder plot was totally obvious and not even worth figuring out.
