I've heard more of less good things about her, but not much about this book in particular, so I was mildly looking forward to readin...

I rounding my rating up to a 3, but only because it's Marillier. I'm a huge fan of her Sevenwaters trilogy; after reading the reviews, I ended up buying The Dark Mirror used. I agree with a lot of what has been said here: this book may not be bad as far as general fantasy is concerned, but for Maril...

3.0 The Dark Mirror (Bridei Chronicles Series #1)
I picked up this book and it's sequel, The Blade of Fortriu, because I had read Marillier's Sevenwaters Trilogy. I am happy I did! This was just as entertaining and engaging as her Sevenwaters Trilogy. That being said...I recommend Sevenwaters over this one, but you should still enjoy these two.
