A seemingly simple novel set in a time where children aren't cherished and women aren't allowed to read. We meet Kira, whose mother has just died and she is observing the end of her 4 day sitting period with the body. Kira, who was born with a deformed leg, returns to the village where she finds tha...

Gathering Blue is not as powerful as The Giver is, but it captivated me quickly as well and offered a lot of food for thought. Recommended. "Gathering Blue" is no sequel like the series suggests, but a companion novel.Street Corner Bookers’ Pile Reduction Challenge, #20 (challenger: Morgan)

Although I felt this book was better written than the Giver, I thought the material was mire interesting in The Giver. I was disappointed that this book did not start with Jonas nor did it mention anything about him or the sameness village. This wasn't a bad book and I read it pretty much in two day...

Reread this a couple of days ago. I thought it was a longer book with a bigger story. Not bad, but not as good as The Giver.

I agree with the general consensus, that while this book had it's own merit, it pales in comparison to The Giver.

I read The Giver earlier this year and absolutely loved it, so when I heard it had two companion books (Gathering Blue and Messenger), I naturally wanted to get hold of them.I don't think it quite lived up to my expectations though. It was interesting, and I really enjoyed it, but it wasn't as mind-...

Boring and predictable and trite and not at all what I was expecting. I thought it was a continuation of The Giver but it isn't. I thought it would be in the same world as The Giver but I can't see any similarities. I thought it would be science fiction but there is nothing along the lines of The Gi...
