This book is one I'd never have thought to get, but you know how it is when you're in a foreign country and you realize that the books you packed to read aren't going to hold you over and you need another--this was that book. I don't read Dutch, German, and French is so ridiculously slow as to be no...

When Elspeth dies, she leaves her papers to her boyfriend and her flat to her twin's children, the twin sisters Julia and Valentina. J&V are very pale, very slim, and although they're nearly 21, very unformed. They have no friends, no lovers, little education, and no interests besides watching tv ...

The last part of this book was rather off-putting for me. Up until part 2 it was around 3 to 3.5 star material for me but by the time I got to the end I could barely even give it 2 stars. This wasn't as amazing and wonderful as The Time Traveler's Wife, but it was interesting and held my attention in a different way. Uggg..I couldn't figure out the purpose for this book. I had to read it for a live book group otherwise I would have possibly not finished it. It was just so far out of my reading likes, it wasn't even funny!

I really liked the way this book started and found it hard to put down. All the detail on High gate Cemetery and the characterization of the twins was wonderful, but the story just got a little bit far fetched and disturbing for me. I think it is worth reading, but it could have been better.

3 1/2 starsStrange gothic paranormal book. The author's writing is what kept me reading. Definitely not as good as The Time Traveler's Wife.

The book isn't as brilliantly breathtaking as The Time Traveller's Wife, but if I hadn't read TTW, I wouldn't have anything to compare it to and so it would have stood on it's own as a breathtakingly brilliant book. That seems quite unfair to a book that kept me captivated throughout. But I guess if...
