It's an interesting read that I nearly missed. The title nearly stopped me reading this. It sounds prescriptive. How Caitlin became a Woman would be possibly better, or a variation thereof. This isn't about being a woman but about Caitlin's philosophy on life, at least some of which I agree with...
(From www.pingwings.ca)I’d heard a lot about this book before I finally got my hands on a copy (thanks Michelle!). I was eager to see what the buzz was about, particularly as I don’t read that much non-fiction, and was in the mood for something a bit different from my usual reading material. Here is ...
I liked this book. It was a solid funny read. I agree with at least 90% of what Moran says; although sometimes I think she goes too far and sometimes I think she just misses the point.Personally, I wear a thong. I find them infinitely more comfortable; I've spent years (prior to discovering the j...
It had it's funny and laugh-out-loud moments. It had moments I didn't care for or about that seemed to go on for pages. I wouldn't read it again, but I don't regret reading it. It isn't academic discourse, but not everything needs to be, and being relatable is equally powerful.
As far as I'm concerned, as a 50 something male, Caitlin Moran is preaching to the converted. There's very little in her book that I disagree with. I will encourage my daughter to read it once she is 15 or 16 as I suspect that anyone, and especially females, trying to make sense of the modern worl...
The most important thing to know about this book is that it probably won’t be what you expect. I was surprised by things including: Caitlin Moran’s frank discussions of all aspects of being a woman; how she defined feminism; and how completely and totally hilarious some of this book was. All of her ...
This book worked for me when it was reflecting, confessing, and speaking aloud what people are just too scared to say. There were moments of outrageous, surreal humor that made me laugh or gasp, and several surprisingly poignant passages. When the book was prescribing or generalizing about what wome...
It took me some time to put this book on my to-read list because, based on the Goodreads reviews, I found it hard to predict if I was going to like or dislike this book. I usually read more serious, academic feminist literature and my fear was – especially after reading how funny this book was suppo...
I wish this book was around when I was in that awkward stage of adolescence. You know, that phase in which you're supposed to hate the world and fall madly in love with shitty teen pop stars? Well Caitlin Moran does a fantastic job of introducing feminism to women. She's funny, entertaining, and abo...
