I know many people read this book and did not enjoy it, but I rather liked it. The concept behind the book was interesting and although I do not usually like movies based on books I have read I will be renting this one on the strength of Merryl Streep.

"I've held off on writing this review as long as possible but I have to face the facts that I did not like this book. I thought I would because I adore cooking and really liked the premise of the project. The fault likes with Julie Powell. I did not like her. She comes across as whiny, spoiled, ...

Part of me feels this book deserves five stars and the other part of me . . . doesn't. Julie Powell's descriptions of food and of Julia Child's life, and even some parts of her own, were magical and made me want to go and start cooking (except for the lobster chapter, which gave me anxiety). When I saw the trailer for the movie, I knew I wanted watch it, and when I heard it was based on a book (or two actually, but I haven't found the other one yet) I had to read it first. And it was well worth it. The book is u...

I surprised myself with how much I liked this book. Well, not the book, in particular, but the author. I liked her sense of humor, her way of looking at things and (for the most part) her style of writing. She is lively and interesting and very capable of keeping me reading. The story is very simple....

"The thing you learn with Potato Parmentier is that "simple" is not exactly the same as "easy." Loved it!

Julie Powell was the perfect modern-day woman to take on a challenge like cooking her way thru Julia Child's massive "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." She's sassy, vulnerable, brutally honest, and freakishly funny. She's also inspiring-be aware that there's a good chance the innocent reader m...
