Mixed feelings about this one. The premise is great-- Lucifer decides he is tired of ruling the underworld and leaves the key to Hell to the Sandman. Disappointingly, not much of interest happens after that, just a lot of chapters detailing why various groups of beings want Hell for themselves and M...

Mind-blowing, epic, ballsy, perfect - whatever the label, I agree with Harlan Ellison. The Sandman Volume Four: Season of Mists is awesome. Some readers had claimed this volume exceeds in excellence [b:The Sandman, Vol. 2: The Doll's House|25099|The Sandman, Vol. 2 The Doll's House|Neil Gaiman|http...

So good! All four of these stand-alone stories are excellent. My personal favorite? Gaiman's blurring of boundaries between fae, dream, and worldly realms in A Midsummer-Night's Dream. Morpheus must acknowledge and correct an old wrong, and Lucifer makes a surprising decision with entertaining ramifications. A pissy little intro by Harlan Ellison, without whose commentary one might arguably be better off.

An enjoyable set of nominally linked stories. This arc seems like Gaiman is really getting the full feeling for his characters and settings.

By now I spend way too much time staring at each page, as tiny story details often come back later (though not always obviously) an...

A terrific story, fascinating character developments, and a whole lot of really really smart/thought-provoking tangents that you can either pick up or leave alone. The story itself (and the beautiful art) are enough to provide plenty of enjoyment - but if you let yourself think about the things tha...

A interesting short story collection, essentially - featuring the excellent "A Midsummer Night's Dream", which is catnip for any Shakespeare lover. The illustrations are gorgeous, the writing top-notch, and I'm feeling fully immersed in this world. Bring on the rest of the proper major story arcs....

4.5 StarsI particularly enjoyed the stories of Lucifer leaving Hell, and the Angels who took over.
