I liked this book just as much as the first two, but the first half of the book had a lot of the same story elements as the first book, which felt weird. I might have read this book first, actually.

At times I found it a difficult read but was enjoyable nonetheless. Modesitt is an excellent writer and his writing is always top quality.

Boring, terribly written fantasy. Seriously, who would read an entire series of this? The main character is bored all the time, and the character development sucks.

The most tedious book I was ever dumb enough to force myself to finish. Damn, it really sucked.

First, full disclosure--I didn't finish reading this book and I generally don't enjoy first-person stories as well. The actual story in this book didn't start til after page 100, and by then, I was already exhausted by the shifting first-person viewpoint. That's right, you get a new first-person vie...

This is a very strange book. Somewhat disjointed, lots of ellipses in the text, and all that. Often, I wasn't sure why Martel was doing something, or even what he was doing. And the time travel always complicates things.Martel may be an example of a too powerful character...at the end, there, jus...

Like some other reviews have said, this book needs editorial examination. Some words are used much too often. But I still liked the book. Modesitt didn't just create bland, totally evil bad guys who wanted to make total chaos or kill everyone. The "bad guys" were people (Efrans/ifrits) from anothe...

Excellent world building and superb magic system with an annoyingly dense but affable young adult protagonist on a quest. Lerris is 'the chosen one' but for all the wrong reasons or completely mysterious hidden reasons until he's painted himself into a corner with his fumbling choices. Lerris isn'...

A simply boring read. I think the main character convinced me of this after he used the word "bored" over 20 (probably more) times in the first 60 pages. He was really dimwitted and often said this out loud, not giving me any type of encouragement to become involved or finish this read. Lots of skim...
