If you just want to read this book because it is a bestseller, you will be sorely disappointed. If you want to read this book because you are religious and want to read something comforting, it can surely do that. But don't expect any intelligent argument or masterful prose.I got this book because I...

Reading this felt like I had to endure the worst of both worlds. The horrific occurrence of the murder of a child, juxtaposition with stale Matrix wannabes and Disney characters. Nothing new but the ugly taste, like washing down jelly beans with sour milk.
A Book Addict's Musings by Readinghearts
Strangely enough, this was one of the first book I ever listed on my To Read shelf on Goodreads. Yet it took me two years to get around to reading it. Partly that is because I have too many books, partly it is because I was afraid to read this book. A guy who goes to a shack and has a conversatio...

I find myself unable to fully embrace this book. While some of the ideas are compelling and very interesting (and match my own faith), the fact that it presents itself like Truth seems problematic. After all, it's a work of fiction by a human being. I would have preferred it as a non-fiction book on...

Well, I guess I am a late-comer to this party, so I don't have a whole lot to add. I have been trying to figure out how to "rate" this book. I felt that any complaint as to the writing style would raise the eyebrows of the adoring, and any complaints on the theology, the eyebrows of the religious. S...

Despite its flaws, The Shack is an imaginative and sincere book that will bring many readers comfort. While reassuring them that God does exist, it will also make many people, who would not otherwise have done so, begin to question traditional visions of the Christian God. And that can only be benef...

I usually don't rate books I DNF but after I suffered through almost a 1/3 of this book, I think I have the right.Despite the pompous subtitle and the fact that I'm a non believer, the description of this book interested me. I expected an emotional story where a man confronts God and demands answers...

First things first, this is NOT a Christian book. This book started out so well but devolved into a distortion of Biblical truth and a teacher of false theology. The view of God presented here may be the wishful thinking of the broad populace, but it is not the God present in the Bible as it claim...

I was given this as a Christmas gift by my mother and didn't want to hurt her feelings by not reading it. I was shocked at how much I liked this given my dislike of reading of religious material. The story kept my interest and I think gave a "good moral". A bit goofy at times..I did enjoy the read.

Here's the thing. I'm an Atheist, and read this book for the simple fact that we all need answers. I enjoyed the way this book was written but it only strengthened my belief or lack-there-of that there is not a "god". To me, this is purely fiction. The book actually angered me in some spots. Simply ...
