Whilst the book Little Women was a fascinating portrait of the times and the people of more than a century ago in America, I found the constant protestant moralising wearing and, eventually, too much to bear. I wasn't sad when the story was over and I didn't immediately look for the sequel, which i...

I was given this more than 30 years ago, and it never appealed, but I gave it a go when it was selected by my book group. As most people know, it's Louisa May Alcott's semi-autobiographical account of four teenage sisters growing up in slight poverty, while their father is away at war.The opening wor...

I read this the first time when I was 8. I got a copy for my birthday. I reread it every summer until I got to high school and then I had more important things to do, like chase boys! It's still one of my top 5 books ever.

I loved this book when I was younger; I think age 13 or 14 is about the right age to fully enjoy it. Upon rereading it as an adult, I can't help but see the philosophical axe that Alcott was grinding in writing this and the other March family stories. Each March sister is drawn to illuminate some ph...
