"Something strange and wonderful had happened at Number Seventeen, Cherry Tree Lane."Mary Poppins arrives at No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane, the house of the Banks', from out of nowhere just as their old Nanny disappears with even less announcement. This is the first book in a series of six about Mary Popp...

Please read my update. It contains the crux of the matter for me. Biographies produced when Tom Hanks was flogging a biopic about Mary Poppins and its making suggest that P.L. Travers (not her real name) was a severe, mysterious and hard to love woman. An excellent essay in the appendix, written by ...

The stories are fun and imaginative. They are antidotes in the lives of the characters. There was no real story connecting them all together. I did not like certain characteristics Mary Poppins possessed. Her acid tongue, I believe children's questions should be answered. I think they should feel c...

I've never been a huge fan of Disney-fication. Maybe I understood, even as a kid, that life didn't always play nice or end well. Or perhaps there was some other reason I haven't yet faced up to. Impulse library book checkout. I have fond memories of the Disney movie and was curious after seeing the Saving Mr. Banks last year. The literary Mary Poppins is much crankier than Julie Andrews could ever be.

If I had read this as a child I'm sure I would have fallen in love with it. As it was I was very entertained but unable to love it because it's more like a collection of short stories so it required effort to keep reading. You don't get pulled through by a continuous plot. Still, I will read it to m...

We saw the play the other night and I realized that I had never read the book, only seen the movie and now the play. Unfortunately, I thought that this was one of those situations in which the movie was much better than the book.

Celebrity Deathmatch review in which Mary Poppins is pitted against Pride and Prejudice. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" is the best word and deserves YOUR vote just for its existence.Think of what Mary Poppins gave you in your childhood. Well, it's p...
