I've liked most of Weber's books in the past, but I couldn't even get to "the event" in this one; I quit in the first few dozen pages. Every character, human and alien, was so ridiculously stereotyped that I had to put it down after one session. The aliens especially were so utterly two-dimensional....
Ok, this book was a little heavy on the gun-loving technical detail of each and every weapon used - but it more than makes up for it with its innovative ending.
