I was exactly thrilled with this book in the beginning. I was pretty bored for the first twenty or so pages, but I always managed to get excited when Captain Wentworth decided to show up. There was a lot of extra stuff in this book that really didn’t need to be there, and only about a fifth of the w...

I do not know what I want to rate this book. I am stuck between 2 stars and 3 stars. I just could get on with the flow of the book. Knowing how much readers love this work of Austen's, I kept feeling 'Is there something wrong with me?' as I just couldn't like it as much as I wanted to. I seriously d...

Not my favourite, but I still adore her social observations and wonderful wit.

This is one of those books...you know, one of those that sits on your shelf, looking pretty and making you feel a bit less of the uncultured swine that you really are. At least, it eased my guilt a little bit just to look at my bookshelves and see it nestled in with all of my other unread classics....

This is a typical Jane Austen book (which undoubtedly you've already read at least Pride and Prejudice), so you must already be accustomed to her style of writing. My favorite Jane Austen novel because it distills Austen's feminist agenda into Anne's vulnerable maturity over a relatively short span of pages. Anne is the most relatable Austen hero; her social anxiety around her former quasi-fiancee makes my heart bleed. Love Wentworth's feminine side - passing ...

Tied for my favourite Austen ever. The quiet, musing nature of the novel - less starkly sarcastic than either Pride and Prejudice or Emma, less knowingly silly than either Northanger Abbey or Sense and Sensibility, yet much less maudlin than Mansfield Park (which I don't like much). I have a soft ...

I'm glad I read this book now rather than when I was younger. I don't think I would have fully appreciated the romance between Anne Elliott and Captain Wentworth if I didn't have the perspective on marriage that I have now. And I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much. This is not a playful story l...
