Reay Tannahill's Books
4.5 stars. Does what it says on the cover. The book discusses the history of food in an interesting and easy to read manner. illustrations included.
Half of this book is really gender in history, which is fine. I'm not sure how much of the earlier chapters would be changed due to recent discoveries, but there are some interesting theories in this book. Great footnotes though.
Another great book. hard to categorise - sort of a 14th century chick-lit, but without the shopping for handbags. But also a really nice study of castle life without being dull or lecturing.
It was better than I thought it was going to be. Though, the book seems to be more about Maitland than Mary Queen of Scots. It seems that Tannahill loses a little spark when Maitland leaves the scene.
A delicious history about the history of cannibalism.
