I just really disliked the language used in this... There where a lot of passages where I just found myself asking - What the hell is going on?! Like, I seriously couldn't follow the plot because of the writing style. Also, do I really need to talk about the perception of women in this?Might still p...

Very fun read. Love the plot with the mystery and suspense. Love the main character's point of view. Love the description of London. Fantastic start to the series looking forward to reading the next one.

I couldn't help but feel sorry for Peter Grant, a bit unlucky in parts, not a great fit as a constable in the Metropolitan Police Force, his life changes when he sees a ghost while guarding a body. He's seconded to a force who police the things that go bump in the night (and at other times as well)...

I first came across this book in Aachen, Germany, and it drew my attention almost immediately. Normally I'm not really a fantasy reader, let alone the even more specific terms like urban fantasy. I liked the writing style from what I read in the bookshop, and made a mental note of it. Still, in the ...

Louise had read this a while ago and loved it but it had been languishing on my to-read list without showing any signs of actually getting read. Almost read by everyone on my flist or on their to read list. I got it last year and I was finally in the mood for it.Same amazing awe discovering the universe Aaronovitch created as when I first read Liz Williams' Chen series. He has created an alternate London very close to the real thing, the rea...

"Original, witty fantasy with deep roots in London"This book is a delight from start to finish (and it didn't take long to finish - I consumed the whole thing in two compulsion-driven days). The book is deeply rooted in contemporary, multicultural, London, with a strong sense of place and of history ...

Note: This book is AKA Midnight Riot in the US. Review originally posted at The BiblioSanctum. I didn't even get past a quarter of the way through this book before I thought to myself, "Okay, this one is totally going on my 'favorites' shelf." In a word, it was fun. So, so fun. I really can't think ...
