Another wonderfully entertaining Jackson Brodie mystery. Although Jackson is involved in much of the book, the retired police superintendent Tracy Waterhouse could be the main protagonist. Status of women, culture of Britain, and of the police in the 70's looms large, and Tracy copes so admirably....
This was a wild ride. I kept thinking, is this Jackson Brodie or is it Dirk Gently? Just when I thought I had things figured out, they got much more complex. It had me reading avidly until the last.
Dear god, does this book ever end??? And does it ever get to the point???

Atkinson has now firmly ensconced her writing in the Mystery or Crime genre, but thats ok. Her writing is fresh and energetic, and unlike some of her contemporaries in those genres, does not rely on simple declarative sentences tumbling one after the other. A good read.
