Chelsea's Adventures in Book Blogging...
I'd say 2.5. I think I would recommend it for a book club, as ethics and morality are a major theme & you could have some great conversations stemming from the book. It was also beautifully written. That said, not really my normal cup of tea. There was never really a time that I felt compelled to ...

I found this book to be fascinating in the beginning. The descriptions of Manaus and the Amazon region was realistic. I could feel the heat and humidity and see the huge insects trying to suck my blood. But, after a while the story line got so bizarre, that I couldn't wait to finish the book. Ther...

I was, I'll admit, a bit dubious about this book. From the blurb, it sounded a bit like the Sean Connery film Medicine Man, which I'm fond of but also find a bit embarrassing. (Or, a lot embarrassing.) Shockingly, I've somehow managed to become a reading adult and missed out on Patchett, so I was...

This was a good hard to put downer. Aspects I found a little far fetched. Pulling an anaconda onto a boat? But an interesting, colorful story for sure.

With the flood of fantastic reviews, I suppose I expected more. An interesting and enjoyable novel, and well worth reading -- not captivating, however.
Title and Statement of Responsibility
I rushed to finish this last night, and I'm still not sure what I think of the ending. The writing was beautiful and the audio version was fantastic, but there was a sudden, conclusive plot twist that I'm still processing. Highly recommended.

I almost couldn't even write a review of this one. It's fine. It's even really good writing; I think Ann Patchett is pretty brilliant. And it's an adventure that does keep you guessing. State of Wonder is a good story.I think the difficulty in writing the review is the hype that surrounds this book....

Great characters, a fantastic setting, and beautiful descriptions... however marred for me by a rushed ending.

This book has it all - wonderful descriptions of an exotic locale, multi-faceted characters, ethical dilemmas and a medical mystery plot that moves at a quick pace from beginning to end. Fantastic book for a bookclub to discuss. Completely enjoyed it from beginning to end!
