30 Day Book Playlist Challenge - Day 30

Day 30: Choose a genre/theme day (Experimental)

I have chosen....

Elevator Music: Defined by Wikipedia as: "Elevator music is typically set to a very simple melody so that it can be unobtrusively looped back to the beginning. In a mall or shopping center, elevator music of a specific type has been found to have a psychological effect: slower, more relaxed music tends to make people slow down and browse longer."

Day 30: Choose a book which is simple enough for you to enjoy but doesn't stay with you

And you know what, I can't think of one. But I love the prompt. Anyone have any suggestions?

Talking To The Moon - Scott McElhaney

Day 29: Book that was all kinds of weird - good or bad (Stoner Rock)

Talking to the Moon was one of the books that made me stop downloading every free book I heard was good. The book is just weird. In this case more on the bad side. Boy accidently hurts his father or stepfather and goes through a friend's dad's time machine to get away. There are more weird parts, but the one that got me was its use of religion. It's not marketed as a Christian book. I even can't really call it a Christian book.

But when he goes to the past, he ends up staying with a family and starts going to church with them. Fine. But then at one point he's talking to someone and says, oh I go to church now. It's acted like, oh he goes to church now, that's such a good thing. There's no mention of why it's a good thing, or even how it betters him. But he goes to church.

I don't seek out christian books, but I have read some. It made no sense in the context of the book to have it. It had no bearing on the plot other than yay he goes to church. It was weird. After this I started reading the bad reviews first for books.

The Phantom Tollbooth 50th Anniversary Edition - Norton Juster,Jules Feiffer

Day 28: Name a nostalgic book (Country)

We read this in fourth grade. It is so due a reread it's insane.

If you like wordplay, you owe it to yourself to pick up this book.

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking - Susan Cain

Day 27: Name a book that blew your mind (Heavy Metal/Rock)

It's a bit weird to associate a book called Quiet with Heavy Metal/Rock, but this book did make me reevaluate so many things I've been told about how to act and why it didn't work for me.

Especially class participation. I hated class participation. Everytime I saw that on a syllabus, I felt I couldn't get a good grade. If I do have kids who are introverts (my dear husband is very extroverted) I will go to bat for them if I can. Reassure them that they aren't broken if I can't change anything.

Attachments - Rainbow Rowell

Day 26: Name a book you'd like to see turned into a musical

I was a bit torn on this one, but I think Attachments would actually be a good musical. It's a self contained story set in the near past. Not a large cast needed. The emails would be acted out. I would actually be interested in seeing this.
