The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima Review
The Demon King - Cinda Williams Chima

I really, really liked this book! There are so many things I loved about this book, but unfortunately, there is one thing I did not like about this book. Let me start off with the thing that I did not like so that I can end this review with the things I liked!

I did not like how the author would change points of view in the middle of the chapter. At one second, it would be in the point of view of Han, and then the next it would be in the point of view of Raisa. And the change of POV's were not in any set order. It would get confusing at some times and it was hard to keep up with. Now, let's move on to the good things.

I really liked how much action the author put in this book. At one point in every chapter, something was happening and somebody was fighting somebody else. The first page was made up of....well, I don't want to give away anything, so I am just going to say that it was made up of action from the very first page. Literally. If you like action, then read this book.

The next thing I liked about this book was how when a character was feeling an emotion, the author described it really well. For example, the author didn't say, "Han was feeling sad.". She said, "Grief ripped through my body, leaving a trail of remorse in its wake. My mind was dizzy and I was in denial of the events that I had just witnessed." Doesn't that sound interesting? Those are not the exact words, but they are similar.

Another thing I liked about this book was that the characters had good problems. They weren't like, "Oh, my makeup is messed up." They had problems that affected a whole country. The author really explained the problems well and how the character reacted to it.

I loved so many more things about this book, but I don't want this review to get too long. If you haven't read this book, PLEASE read it and comment below whether you liked it or not and why. Thanks for reading this review!

The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd Review
The Madman's Daughter - Megan Shepherd

Goodreads Description: Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations are true.

Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward—both of whom she is deeply drawn to—Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father's madness: He has experimented on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans. And worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius—and madness—in her own blood.

My Review: I am going to start off by saying that this book was pure action. There was action on every page and I was so happy because I love action! This book was truly amazing. Before I read it, I wasn't expecting anything, but the second I started reading it, I knew that I would love it. It wasn't slow at all and the romance was really good.

The main character, Juliet, felt like a real person to me. She had her good things, but she also had her faults, which made her real to me because no one is perfect. I flew through this book (literally, because I finished it in a day!) and I was so surprised by the ending! Megan Shepherd developed the characters so well and I love her writing style in this book. Juliet has a love interest in this book and Megan Shepherd developed his character so well, that I fell in love with him as well!

Family relationships are important in this book, because Juliet has a rocky relationship with her father in this book and some parts of the book focus on Juliet trying to figure out her relationship with her father and trying to find a way to make the relationship better.

I feel like Megan Shepherd put a lot of thought into the setting because it felt like I was actually there. She described the setting so well and I could picture it clearly in my mind. Megan Shepherd also described the characters really well. I could clearly see the characters in my mind and it felt like they were standing right next to me when I read this book.

This book ended on a cliffhanger and I wanted to get the next book immediately. This book went way above my expectations and I am so glad that I decided to read it! I recommend that everyone read this book and if you like a lot of action, then you should definitely read this book!
