Happy Hour is 9 to 5 by Alexander Kjerulf
Happy Hour is 9 to 5 - Alexander Kjerulf

The pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal. We all want to be happy in life. We all deserve to be happy. We all must do everything in our hands to achieve happiness.

Sometimes we get all caught up in life’s vicissitudes that we lose perspective, especially those in the work force. And if we are unhappy at work, we will have a hard time being happy in life in general.

Happy Hour is 9 to 5 by happiness expert Alexander Kjerulf is a wonderful tool everyone must read every once in a while. It is a tool full of invaluable lessons that I’m sure you will highlight every time you read it. It is a very positive read that will help you get back in the happy track of life.

The writing in this book is fast paced and entertaining. The information is complimented by real life case studies of companies that have been successful in achieving happiness, fun illustrations, and links to the author’s website for additional worksheets and related articles. When I first read the book, the links didn’t work, I suppose the author has updated them since the book’s publication date. Another helpful thing is that the key points are clearly marked in bulleted or numbered lists. You can’t miss them. They are very helpful for when you re-read the book.

Like I said, this book is full of important happiness lessons. The most important is that Happiness at work is possible. For more about this check out the full review on my blog.

Happy Hour is 9 to 5 is a great resource for anyone in the workforce, regardless of ranks. Either if you’re going through a Meh! phase at work, or you are just starting a job, you are looking for one, you’ve been promoted, etc. you must read this book. It will inspire a positive attitude and will motivate you to improve your work life and be happy. Highly recommended.

A Month in My Bookshelf | July 2014
Before I Wake - C.L. Taylor
Delirium - Lauren Oliver
The Rise & Fall of Great Powers: A Novel - Tom Rachman
Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stevenson
The City - Dean Koontz
Beautiful Darkness - Kami Garcia,Margaret Stohl
Close Call - Stella Rimington
The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath
Dream Dark: A Beautiful Creatures Story - Kami Garcia,Margaret Stohl
Happy Hour Is 9 to 5 - Alexander Kjerulf

July was a great month for reading. Once again I broke my own record. 10 books! I’ve had a great summer of reading. I hope I can keep it up once I go back to work. We’ll see if I can.

July was a month of variety regarding the genres I chose. No cozy love stories this month but very interesting ones that took me to a lot of different places. I kept listening to YA. Had to find out what happened next to the “beautiful creatures” in Gatlin, South Carolina and also enjoyed listening to Sarah Drew’s voice as she tried not to be sick with “amor deliria nervosa” in Portland, Maine.

For my Classics I was glad I finally got to read about pirates and treasures and traveled back in time to that mysterious island no one knows exactly where it is. And then I followed Esther’s journey to recover her mental health in New York.

My mystery reads, took me to England, where I followed a loving mother in her mission to find out what happened to her teenaged daughter and then Dean Koontz took me to “the city” where I followed a charming little boy with prodigious musical talent and his Asian friends to catch some really bad crazy people. On the thriller side, Stella Rimington took me on a wild journey all over: Paris, UK, Yemen (first time I book travel over there!) on a mission to catch bad guys smuggling dangerous weapons.

Tom Rachman on the Fiction part of my reads, took me all over too. He made me follow Tooly on her travels to the UK, Italy, Australia, Bangkok, and NY to find out about her past. And the non-fiction read of the month took me to Denmark, where I learned that happiness at work is possible, it’s a choice only you can make and I also learned there’s a town in Denmark called: Middlefart! (I keep giggling like a pre-schooler every time I remember this! :D )

My July summer bookish travels were fun! Oh the places I went! :)

  • July’s Book: There were four, 4 stars books this month! It’s hard to pick just one up. But I chose the one that surprised me the most in the sense that I never expected to like it so much: Treasure Island.
  • July’s Cover: You know I drool for teal so I’m torn between Delirium and  Before I wake. But to pick just one I choose: Before I Wake.
  • July’s Fail:No fails this month! It was a great enjoyable month of 3 starred and 4 starred reads.
  • July’s Score: 3.5 (average book rating this month)

I’ve been reading a lot in the morning after I wake up and am enjoying it a little too much. What’s your favorite time for reading?

Reading progress update: I've read 121 out of 141 pages.
Happy Hour is 9 to 5 - Alexander Kjerulf

This is a good book. I'm learning things. Highlighting a lot! But the best thing so far that has me giggling like a pre-schooler is the fact that there's a town in Denmark called: MIDDLEFART. XD

I want to visit that town! Looks like a nice place! You can go whale watching and visit author Hans Christian Andersen's house!!!

To have a Middlefart stamp on my passport! That would make me happy! :)

This one is hosted by Should be reading.

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

Here are my answers:

• What are you currently reading?

Still in heaven re-reading Gone with the Wind.

I finally got to start new books! That makes me happy! :)
Learning how to be happy at work with Happy Hour is from 9 to 5. Good reference book.
Started to listen to Pandemonium, Sara Drew's voice is so nice to listen to.
Reading about cops and serial murderers in the 70's in Karin Slaughter's Cop Town.

• What did you recently finish reading?

Finished The City by Dean Koontz, Close Call by Stella Rimington, Beautiful Darkness and Dream Dark,  and finished The Bell Jar.

Enjoyed all those books, thankfully none of them turned out to be bad. They were actually a pretty good.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

I have to finish my ARCs, or I'll never get to request another book in this lifetime!  I think I'll choose the romances to balance all the action-packed mysteries and thrillers I've been reading. I'm going to finally start The American Heiress  tomorrow, because there's always tomorrow! :)

Reading progress update: I've read 78 out of 141 pages.
Happy Hour is 9 to 5 - Alexander Kjerulf

I'm enjoying this book. Highlighting a lot.

Many lessons learned. Those on the top of my mind:

  • The more freedom and autonomy you experience at work, the happier you will be.
  • It’s much easier to be happy if your job has meaning to you, and you keep that meaning in mind.
  • Keep a daily happiness at work log.
  • Companies don't have to be secretive with employees. Involvement makes them happy.
  • A good manager should motivate rather than command. The less stress the happier the employee.
