I'll have to mull this over some more before being able to write a coherent review.

But what comes to my mind is the word authentic. If felt authentic and real. The characters felt real and the sense of time and places was really strong.

It was also very romantic. There is a lot going on and I enjoyed everything, all the details of life. The difficult and the moments of sunshine. What complicated relationships between the members of the family.

And as quiet of a man Cord is, the way the story is told I get more of a sense of him than some other heroes that talk 10 times as much.

I have had this on my tbr for quite some time and I am really glad I finally moved it up. I am also glad that by now the author has a few other novels penned I can read. :)

When people talk about the gems in self publishing, this is what they mean. I don't re-read often, but I have a feeling I will do so with this one down the road.

This was my first by O'Banyon and it will not be my last for sure. I am glad to find out that much of her back list is now available on kindle. I picked this as my prime loan for this month to see if I would like the writing and now I know. I love it. 

I assumed this was written a while back, mainly because I don't really come across these sweeping native american historical romances anymore in the new releases. But it looks like this was first published in 2010. And that is good news. It means these types of romance are still being written today. I have been going back to somewhat older stuff lately to find the real immersing historical romances. Somehow the new stuff is lacking some of the drama and epic-ness, for lack of a better word. 

This one has all of what I ask for in a romance with the NA theme. The struggles, some ugliness, the spirituality, nature, growing love, heartache longing, culture and happiness. 

It starts out dark and painful and the way to happiness is not easy and covered with sharp rocks. But those are the kind of romances I love. I want there to be some depth to it, some meaning.

I read this in almost one sitting. It was such a page turner and such a pleasure to read. It had just the right combination of everything and the sense of adventure I was looking for. I really didn't want it to end. 

I'll be reading more of this author soon and I am happy to see there is an extensive back list to pick from with many different settings.  

I came across this book as I was trying to decide what to pick for my Kindle prime loan. I grabbed this quickly on the last day I was able to in the month. I had never read this author before so I wasn't sure what to expect.

I am thinking the cover is from the original published version and hasn't been updated yet.

I felt like a western historical with a native american hero so off it went on my Kindle.

I was thoroughly entertained. Is there some over the top stuff? Yes, but its entertaining. :)

I had no idea how the issues between the hero and the heroine could possibly be resolved. There was a lot of bad stuff going on, a lot of hate from the heroines family towards indians in general and the hero, then a lot of hate between the both of them. It was a long way to get to some sort of redemption and of course, some things cannot be undone. But it was done in a very satisfying way, without washing it all under the rug. One can forgive, but never forget.

I'll definitely read more by this author. She kept me turning the pages wanting to find out whats next.

I had a couple of issues. One was the formatting. Oy the formatting is horrible. Words run together and the font was weird on my kindle. It is a credit to the author that I was able to get immersed into the story regardless of these issues since I normally get very distracted by them. That's a great story teller.

The other issue was that the love scenes are a bit flowery. Nothing over the top, just a tad. 

I didn't like this one quite as much as the other I read by this author.
The setting intrigued me. Guthrie Oklahoma in the late 1800's apparently was a mecca for folks getting a divorce.
We have a widow arriving in Guthrie thinking she owns land after finding a deed with her husbands belongings. She finds out that he divorced her without her knowledge and married someone else who now owns the land. Helping her with all this is the hero who is her lawyer.

Somehow I just couldn't connect with either the hero or the heroine. Didn't really like either of them.
But interesting setting.
