Saturday Public Library Haul: May 31, 2014
Cuba: Portrait of an Island - Donald Nausbaum
The Joker: Death of the Family - Scott Lobdell,Ann Nocenti,Fabian Nicieza,Tony S. Daniel,Gail Simone,John Layman,Peter J. Tomasi,Scott Snyder,Adam Glass,Kyle Higgins,James Tynion
Bizarre Weather: Howling Winds, Pouring Rain, Blazing Heat, Freezing Cold, Huge Hurricanes, Violent Earthquakes, Tsunami's, Tornadoes and more of Nature's Fury - Joanne O'Sullivan

It was a pretty good day to pick up things at the public library. As I still have a few items checked out from previous hauls, I had gone in to return things I did finish. However, once I look around a bit, I always find something a little extra. As I mentioned, I still have a couple other items, so I went for things that were light and easy to read. Stay tuned, as I will review the items I read soon enough.

  • The Cuba book just seemed like a nice photography book. I always enjoy photography books, and I also like books about Latin America. Plus, it seems like an easy read.

The Bizarre Weather one I picked up because I love trivia books. This seemed, to me, like an unusual topic in an easy to read format. Certainly a nice book for when you need a little reading material while sitting in the porcelain throne.

The Joker one I saw on their graphic novels shelf, and I checked it out for curiosity's sake. From the looks of it, this is a complete compilation of The New 52 series Death of the Family, the Batman and family crossover event. I have already read most of the separate compilations in the series (in a crossover, you get the main title, and then the usual additional titles in other characters' comics that go along the main title), but this looks like it puts the events in a chronological, more linear order. So I checked it out to have a look, see how it is laid out, and do a review. One of the things that I disliked of reading the compilations is they all kept putting in the one scene in all the comics. After you read it once in one place, you sort of skim or skip it in the next volume. I am interested to see how they lay it out in this complete set.

On a small side note, the cover of The Joker book provided here at BookLikes does not match my edition's cover. I found the book here based on ISBN, so I am guessing the database here has a flaw. A search for other editions did not turn up the right over either. Oh well.

We Are the Weather Makers: The History of Climate Change
We Are the Weather Makers: The History of Climate Change - Tim Flannery Adaptation of The Weather Makers for young readers with assistance from Sally Walker. Interesting and informative but terribly dense content.
