Shadow and Ice - Gena Showalter

This one was hard to get into. It is the first in a new series for Showalter, so I am hoping as the series progresses it gets better.  The characters are good and the plot concept interesting, so I’m not sure why I had a difficult time wanting to pick it up and read. I will read more to see how this new series unfolds. I enjoy Gena Showalter’s way of telling stories so I am hopeful I will grow to like the series more.  Knox and Vale are good together and I enjoyed watching the hardened and cold Knox fall for the human turned combatant, Vale. Vale's personality was strong and she had spunk, I enjoyed watching her win Knox and come to terms with her new normal. I am hopeful the series gets better and I will definitely pick up book 2 to read, but thus far, not as good as her Lords of the Underworld or the Original Heartbreakers series.

The Evil Queen
The Evil Queen - Gena Showalter

The Forest of Good and Evil, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m a fan of the author.

The Characters:

Everly Morrow:
Roth Charmaine:
Heartly Morrow, Truly Morrow, Farrah Charmaine

The Story:

The writing of this was very complex and multi tiered. I will admit I didn’t love the characters and even the storyline at times. It was a little bit of a lot that felt like a little bit of a lot. I quit this book when I got the ARC, it was a lot of buildup and very little pay off and as I listened to the audiobook I did still find myself feeling this way at times. On the flip side sometimes I was totally engrossed in the story, I just wish I could have been all in all the time.

I am on board for the next story, though I have no idea where this will go.

Frost and Flame
Frost And Flame - Gena Showalter

Gods of War, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

The Characters:

Bane of Adwaeweth:
Nola Lee:
Zion, Vale London, Knox

The Story:

This is not my favorite series by Ms Showalter. The characters and world building are excellent but there is something about it that just doesn’t completely draw me in. Bane is a many layered character. His own loyalties clouding his judgement at times. I personally feel close to Nola as I have Lupus and Fibromyalgia also however a much more mild version for myself. I feel like I understand her even if my illness hasn’t been as severe. But I digress, a lot of action happens in this book. Travel all over the world and mysteries unfold. Overall I enjoyed it and am ready for the next installment

5 Star Frost and Flame
Frost And Flame - Gena Showalter

The most feared immortal warrior in all War history, Bane of Adwaeweth is possessed by a bloodthirsty beast and he will stop at nothing to win and while he hates the power Nola Lee has over him, she can rain vengeance upon his wife’s killer. Nola is battling illness and addiction, but with Bane, she experiences pleasure for the first time and wants more but being with him comes with a terrible price. Their romance will either save them both or destroy everything they’ve come to love.

The second book in the ‘Gods of War’ series is an exhilarating experience that readers don’t want to miss. The author has a gift for making her worlds completely captivating and full of unique elements that makes every story a very enjoyable experience and this one is no different. The world itself it complex with lots of hidden facets, potential for backstabbing and utter violence but the story is about good fighting back against the tyranny and violence of their worlds. The fast paced plot is full thrilling suspense that has readers biting their nails and adrenaline pumping excitement that has gasping in surprise and expectation along with all of kinds of twists and turns that ensures that readers better not blink or they may miss something important.

The characters themselves are strong, bold and easily grab readers’ attentions and the relationship between Bane and Nola is as complex as the war taking place. There is nothing typical in this story and every time readers think they know what will happen next…BAM, something unexpected happens. Beware, this story can be read as a standalone but takes place consecutively with the first one and of course the overall plot of the series isn’t one hundred percent complete.

The Forest of Good and Evil, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Gena Showalter

The Characters:

Everly Morrow:
Hartly Morrow:
Aubrey Morrow (mom), Truly Morrow (cousin)

The Story:

I wanted to love the book. Ms Showalter is one of my favorite authors but ultimately it was taking too long to get into the story. 15% in and I was still utterly confused. There is a lot of world building and hints, vision and half scenes. I just can’t anymore. I guess I don’t have the patience.
