Miss Nelson is Missing!

Guided Reading: Level L

This is a great book to get your students engaged. This book is about a class that is misbehaving. Once their sweet teacher Miss Nelson goes missing and a witchy substitute take her place all of the students regret their wicked ways and want Miss Nelson to come back. I would use this book is my classroom to teach my students rules and show them how not to act in a classroom.

Ms. Harris' Overview of Miss Nelson is Missing
Miss Nelson Is Missing! - Harry Allard,James Marshall

Miss Nelson is Missing is a fun book for teachers and students. It is a book full of mystery and laughter. This book is rated at a 2.7 (2nd grade, 7th month) reading level based on accelerated reader leveling system. This is personally one of my favorite books that I remember reading when I was younger. This book will allow students to engage in conversation and may help the teacher out a little (you will just HAVE to read to find out what I mean). A great activity for this reading is to have the students go on a "hunt".

A student’s worse nightmare!
Miss Nelson Is Missing! - Harry Allard,James Marshall

Another classic book with a hidden lesson for the classroom. Miss Nelson is Missing is about the ultimate reverse psychology on students in the classroom that don’t quite want to do as they are told. Of course it is much exaggerated but very hilarious to watch the student’s faces react to all that the “substitute” teacher is doing. I always thought it would be fun to dress up as Miss Viola Swamp for a classroom one day, but only as a joke of course. This book is a great lesson in integrity and respect in the classroom. I would love to use this book in a compre and contrast lesson and allow the students to work in groups comparing Miss Nelson to Miss Viola Swamp from how they look and talk to how they act.

The students in room 207 were very misbehaved for Miss Nelson, but when she disappears, a new teacher makes them do work ALL DAY! Miss Nelson is Missing!! When Miss Nelson comes back the students in room 207 never misbehaved again! I would use this book to work on expression and voice when reading!
