Home is Where the Heart Is
Home is Where the Heart is - Freda Lightfoot

Set in 1945, Cathy is anxiously waiting for the return of her fiance from the war. A few months ago her sister was killed in an accident, leaving Cathy to bring up her young nephew. On his return, Cathy is faced with the decision of whether or not to tell Alex about the baby. Sadly, he finds out from somebody else and doesn’t believe the baby is not Cathy’s. After the engagement is called off, and Cathy learns of the sinister actions of Alex, she is left to build her life. Will she ever trust a man again?

Home is where the heart is was one of those books that I was unable to put down. Having said that, be warned that a few late nights may be imminent. The story had my attention from the very first page, not only is it set in a period of history that I enjoy, but it shows a completely different angle than similar books. I believe the history to be correct, and the sinister turn of events gave the book more depth.

Cathy and Alex are both very well developed, making it very easy for me to imagine that I knew them. I particularly liked the relationship between Cathy and her nephew. Alex is the kind of man that we all love to hate, but because he is recently back from fighting the war, it kind of feels wrong to see him in a negative way. I thought this in particular was very cleverly written.

The storyline, although in great depth, is written at a good enough pace to prevent confusion while not being to slow. It was easy for me to picture the scenery, and to imagine the feelings of all the characters.

Overall I would recommend this to pretty much anyone, especially if you enjoy historical, crime or suspense novels. Enjoy.

Mail Order Family
Home Is Where the Heart Is - Barbara Dan

This is a heartwarming Western historical Christian-themed romance. Both the H/h were likable, and I appreciated that they have a passionate sensual relationship, something often neglected in Christian romance. The kids were cute as well.

Review: A Heart's Home by: Colleen Coble
A Heart's Home (A Journey of the Heart) - Colleen Coble

*I solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me God*

Publishing Information: Thomas Nelson, August 2015

Safety rating: PG (Suggested age 13+) (This book is 100% clean, I am just not sure children under 13 would understand all of the character interactions.)

When I received this book, my first thought was, "Wow, this is really small!" It is 99 pages long. After reading the back I thought there was no way they would be able to fit in everything that needed to happen. They did but, lets just say it wasn't what I was expecting.

First thing, this is book 6 of a series, I didn't notice that until the book was in my hand. I hoped that everything would make sense anyway. To some extent it did but, there was lots of context I was missing for most of the characters.

That being said, the premise was good, and I did enjoy what I read. I just felt like I didn't have enough background information. It is like walking into a conversation between your friends, you may know what they are talking about but, you don't know what they have said about it. I wasn't that impressed with the ending either. I would like to read more from Colleen Coble, just not in this short story type format. Thank you so much for reading!

The Heart's Journey Home
The Heart's Journey Home: California Blend Summer Vacation - Nikki Jackson

It’s summer vacation, and all seventeen-year-old Tori Logan wants to do is hang out with her two best friends, practice her mixed martial arts and go to FBI spy camp. Summer means freedom (mostly from adults) and Tori plans to fill every spare moment of her last summer before graduating from High School with all the fun things she and her best pals can come up with.

Tori, whose mom died of breast cancer when she was young, has always relied on her own strength to get by - especially because her Archeologist father tends to leave her behind with his live-in girlfriend while he gallivants around the world on digs. Thankfully, Tori can take care of herself. She knows exactly who she is and what she wants to do with her life. Her Lakota Sioux grandfather, a former Navy SEAL, trained Tori in self-defense from a young age. Now, as a teenager, Tori excels at mixed martial arts and the use of various weapons. During the summer she will be attending an FBI sponsored Summer Camp which she hopes will lead to her dream job – becoming an FBI serial killer profiler.

But while Tori is determined to be independent, life has other plans for this fierce young teen, and they include coming to grips with some hard - and surprising - truths about both her past and her future.
