Book Review - Deadly Weapon (Jake Wolfe Book 5) by Mark Nolan
Deadly Weapon - Mark Nolan

Here we go again, another rip roaring adventure with Jack Wolfe and his loyal canine Cody as they face their biggest challenge to date. This is the 5th outing with our intrepid duo and when normal authors take you on a similar journey as in previous novels this author finds a new and exciting way to entertain and keep the reader enrapt in the storyline.

Our duo not only have to save themselves but follow the scent of the trail to find out who is behind the threat to save the human race. The author has picked a very topical subject to write about which adds to the storyline and really makes you think about current events which are happening in the world today.

Mark Nolan shows expertise and research in how agents work in describing the thoughts and emotions of both Jake and Cody. Obviously with any thriller there is a romantic side to the novel for both Jake and Cody.

There is not a lot more I can say about this novel without giving anything away, but if you are a fan of Jack Reacher you will love Mark Nolan.

All the books are individual stories but all take you to a different place. You will fall in love Cody and once you have read this story you will be looking forward to the next instalment.

Velocity Weapon by Megan E. O'Keefe - My Thoughts
Velocity Weapon - Megan E O'Keefe

Wow, wow, wow!

There's not a lot I can say about this book without giving away all the delicious twists and turns, do you'll just have to believe me when I say what starts off as an interesting interstellar tale turns into a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions just shy of halfway through.

I loved the characters.  Sanda is an excellent main character as is her brother Biran, I enjoyed getting to know both of them and I'm pretty sure there's more to learn in the future.  I seen this book called twisty, but let me tell you, it's UBER twisty and I was just hanging on for dear life.

One of the subplots seemed incredibly out of place and I had no idea how it fit in to the main story... and to be honest, I don't think I fully get it even now, but I'm ready to find out.  *LOL*

Look, I enjoyed the hell out of this book and recommend it to anyone who likes space adventure.  There's a cliffhanger at the end, of course, the whole damned book is filled with them!  But that's okay!  And it's killing me that I don't know when the next book is coming out!!

Dramatic tales told without context
A Damned Un-English Weapon: The Story of British Submarine Warfare, 1914-18 - Edwyn Gray

Edwyn Gray's history of British submarine warfare in the First World War is less an examination of the employment of submarines in the war than it is a collection of stories of their deployments. Drawing upon their reports and postwar memoirs, Gray recounts their experiences in dramatic fashion, interspersed with the sort of humorous anecdotes that give a sense of how the sailors coped with the unique stresses they faced. While it makes for entertaining reading, there is little effort to connect it to the larger context of the war at sea, let alone the larger conflict taking place around them. Readers seeking entertaining accounts of combat will find Gray's book well worth reading, but those seeking an analysis of their role in the war or any comparison with the similar campaign mounted by Germany will likely be disappointed by its limitations.
