One of the hardest things I have ever had to do was bury my wife.

The second hardest thing would be watching my twelve-year-old daughter fall to her knees as they lowered her mother into the ground to rest.

A heart-wrenching vision that will forever be etched in my mind.

Claire was my best friend—she had been since we were barely old enough to talk. I always knew, one day, I would marry her. I think I may have even told her that a few times while we were growing up.

Never did I think I would lose her so suddenly.

I knew at that moment…

Our life would never be the same again…

Excerpt:

“Come on, Bailey, why don’t you let me get you home? You’re gonna feel like shit in the morning, sweetheart.” Jackson stood up and took a step toward her, holding out his hand.

“Oh please, Jack, you need to just chill out and take a Viagra. I’m fine, and I’m not ready to leave.”

Everyone froze, staring at Bailey intently. Had she truly meant to say that, or was that a drunk slipup?

Jackson leaned in and placed one hand on each arm of her chair, then lowered himself until his face was only inches from hers. “I can reassure you, baby, I can go all night long, and I don’t need a little blue pill to make that possible.”

She tilted her head back and looked up at him with a puzzled expression.

He smiled and licked his lower lip, and the way he looked at Bailey, showing sure signs of lust, was causing me to feel a little overheated. Jackson’s sexual energy seemed to flow off him in waves. He never tried to hide it, and he sure as hell didn’t care who was around when he decided to lay it on even thicker.

His lips were so close to hers that it looked as if he was going to kiss her. Instead, he murmured, “When you’re not so drunk, I’ll show you just how long I can go. I’m pretty damn sure I can outlast you, sweetheart.”

Bailey turned her head in my direction, suddenly looking a little more sober than she had three minutes ago. Our gazes locked, and her eyes widened just a little. “I meant to say Valium,” she whispered in horror.

Interview:

Today, we welcome C.A. Harms to Musings and Ramblings. Let's all give a big Geeky welcome!

Let's start with some writer specific questions before moving into the fun stuff. That way everyone can really get to know the person behind the writer. We will finish things off with a round of Think Fast. Ready for the interrogation to begin?

Writing Specific

Is your writing style more plotter or pantser?
More of a Plotter. I plan it all out in my mind, the beginning, middle and end. Then I jump in and begin to create the in between. In the end I have the story I want.

When is your favorite time/place to write? Do you write structured or patchworked?
I am a night owl. When the house is quiet, all the kids are in bed and the hubby is satisfied ;) I turn on the music grab a glass of wine and get lost in my characters. Generally I operate on a timeline of sorts. Scene ideas in order and then those are always leading in to more and more….and more.

How do you deal with Writer's Block?
SPOTIFY or a Movie Marathon.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Spending time with my kids, or reading someone else’s work.

How did you choose the genres you write in?
I am a romantic at heart so it seems fitting.

Fun Stuff

What was the last movie/concert/show that you saw?
The last Show at the theater was VACATION….Oh my god met me just say it has been a while since I have laughed that hard. Loved it. Last movie at home was Insurgent---Another love. And last Concert, um what are those? Just teasing but it has been too long since I went to one of those.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Invisible, I would love to just sit back and be able to see/hear what those do when they think no one is around. Um and yes I do understand I may see things I don’t want to see too. lol

What was the name of the last book you read?
Find Me, by Laurelin Paige

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Fake people, just be real, honestly if someone doesn’t like you when you are being your own true self it is their loss. But if you are being fake and it backfires in your face, you only have yourself to blame.

What would we find in your refrigerator right now?
Lots of fruit and WINE! A girl has her priorities.

Think Fast

Elvis or Sinatra? Elvis
AM or PM? PM
Mountains or Sea? Mountains
Meat or Veggies? Veggies
Italian or Chinese? Italian
Summer or Winter? Summer
Coffee or Tea? Coffee
Cake or Pie? Pie
Car or Truck? Truck
Dead Tree or Electronic? Electronic

Thanks for coming by and spending some time with us. Any final words of wisdom to pass along?

Stay true to yourself and in the end we are all successful.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Extra Fancy Books
Date of Publication: February 24, 2015
Number of pages: 320
Cover Artist: The Killion Group

Each book in the Clover Park STUDS Series can be read as a stand-alone novel, or for more fun read them in order. Characters you’ve loved from past books frequently pop up in other books.

Successful, not-so-great-with-the-ladies, and all around nice guy Barry Furnukle can’t believe his luck when Amber Lewis agrees to date him. But when his attempt to woo her with the world’s most “awesome” date (birding and fro-yo) lands him in the friend zone, he wonders if a guy like him ever had a chance.

On advice from his ladies’ man brother, Barry returns to his acting roots for a little confidence rehab. Suddenly he’s got more female attention than he knows what to do with. But will his new found popularity make him happy? Or will he finally release his inner stud to win the woman he can’t forget?

Excerpt:

“Bare?” she called.

He turned. “Amber?”

“What are you doing here?” they asked at the same time.

“I’m auditioning,” he said at the same time as she said, “I’m painting.”

He crossed to her, and she felt herself flush. The white shirt, open to the waist, gave her an eyeful of chest and abs. Wow. She forced her eyes up to meet his, which were sparkling with mischief.

“Speak again, m’lady, if you dare,” he growled. “Explain what ye do here.”

A thrill ran through her. She almost forgot it was Bare for a moment there. She licked her lips. “I paint the scenery.”

“Ah. Had me an audition for the Pirate King.”

“I know. You were amazing! I didn’t know you could sing.”

“Arrr, matey, sing, loot, pillage, fight with me sword.”

Sword. Her eyes dropped to his crotch hugged snugly by the breeches. She felt her face flame. What was wrong with her? He hadn’t meant that kind of sword!

She met his warm brown eyes again. “You don’t have to talk like a pirate.”

It was confusing her. Friendly and sexy were getting crossed. And wasn’t she mad at him for something? He grinned devilishly. “Aye aye, me beauty.”

“Oh.” She giggled. “Have you done a lot of theater?”

“Aye, wench, but it’s been a while.” His voice, low and scraping, registered on a deep, throbbing level.

“Too long?” she asked. Only they weren’t talking about theater anymore.

He leered at her, letting his eyes trail up and down her body. “Saucy wench.”

She shook her head. “I can’t believe the way you just belted that song out.”

“Believe. Aye, truth is, me singing is a regular thing.” He stepped closer, and his voice rumbled close to her ear. “Me shower knows the tale.”

Her throat went dry as she pictured him naked in the shower. Stop that, you dirty brain. This was her friend and neighbor Bare. Regular old Bare. Good ole…Bare.

“So…okay,” she said, suddenly tongue-tied as their gazes collided. She had the strangest urge to step right into his arms and let him carry her off to his pirate ship and have his wicked way with her.

She cleared her throat. “I’d better get back to painting.” She gestured in the direction of the band room. “The pirate ship is huge. It’s going to need at least two coats of black.”

He gave her a rakish salute with a wink that left her speechless.

“Will ye be at rehearsal on Monday night, wench?” he asked.

“Absolutely,” she breathed. “I’ll be there.”

He gave her a slow smile, and it was like the sun had suddenly come out and shone its sexy good looks all over her body. “That be good news.”

LADIES AND GENTS! I have an announcement!

You know that guy I featured on my blog a few months ago? The really, really hot Irish rugby player who plays the position of ‘hooker’ in the RLI (Rugby League International)? The one with the anger management issues, the body of a gladiator and the face of a movie star? The one with the questionable fashion choices leading me to ask whether he was the lovechild of a leprechaun and a hobbit? Ronan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, that guy.

Well, I have a confession to make…

THE HERMIT

Annie Catrel, social media expert extraordinaire at Davidson & Croft Media and clandestine celebrity blogger, can make anyone shine in the court of public opinion. She is the Socialmedialite, anonymous creator of New York’s Finest and the internet’s darling. Virtual reality is Annie’s forte, but actual reality? Not so much.

THE HOOKER

Ronan Fitzpatrick, aka the best hooker the world of rugby has seen in decades, despises the media—social or otherwise. The press has spun a web of lies depicting him as rugby’s wild and reckless bad boy. Suspended from his team, Ronan has come to Manhattan to escape the drama, lay low, fly under the radar. Only, Ronan isn’t easy to overlook, and he can’t escape the notice of the Socialmedialite…

THE PLAN

When Ronan is sent to Davidson & Croft Media to reshape his public image, he never expects to cross paths with shy but beautiful Annie, nor does he expect his fierce attraction to her. He couldn’t be happier when her boss suggests pairing them together.
What lengths will Annie take to keep her virtual identity concealed? And what happens when the hooker discovers who the hermit really is?

The Hooker and the Hermit is a collaboration between authors L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid, is a full length 100k word novel, and is a standalone.

Excerpt:

New York’s Finest
Blogging as *The Socialmedialite*
March 8
If Sporty Spice married a hobbit, had a three-way with a leprechaun, and then gave birth to a sexy, bizarre baby (paternity unknown).

Guess who was spotted this week looking equal parts hot and ridiculous in every kind of synthetic fabric currently manufactured by the miracle of chemical engineering? None other than Colin Farrell (or his doppelgänger) down near the Village. Obviously, no one loves him. Friends don’t let friends dress like this (unless it’s cosplay or part of a bedroom role-play fantasy). If you take a look at the pictures above, you’ll certainly understand my horror at finding anyone willing to wear lime green Lycra and Speedo running shorts. The only explanation I can think of is that he was drunk (you know how those Irish enjoy their whiskey…and beer…and any and all alcohol).

I could have forgiven the spandex, but I can’t forgive the freaky feet. Toe-shoes are never okay. They’re weird and disturbing and really, really pretentious. And, as an aside, for those of you who are interested in looking like a hobbit, this particular brand of toe-shoe will set you back $635. That’s right! You too can look like a weird little man for the very low price of six hundred and thirty-five dollars!!! WTF?

Also, for the record, Colin needs to invest in a cup. Yes, I enjoy the occasional bulge, but this bulge was verging on concealed weapon status. If he continues to run around in these spandex shorts, he will only have himself to blame for the gropings. Goodness, if I’d been within arm’s reach, I definitely would have copped a feel. Amiright, ladies? You all know how I like my bangers and mash, and there’s nothing more Irish than sausage!

Booyah!

Review:
Rugby players are my sexy new vice. Especially when they are being paired with a snarky, blogging introvert with a bit of a geek streak. Honestly, I added this book to my list because of Penny Reid.  I am so enjoying her Knitting in the City series that I when I saw she was co-penning a book with a rugby player, I was very interested. I had no clue who L.H. Cosway was, but worth a shot, right?

OMG. I could definitely see Ms. Reid's influence in the story. The witty snark from an just off center female that keeps me coming back for more, was readily available. However, she also had a much softer, much more fragile side than I have seen before that I can't help but attribute to Ms. Cosway's influence. The combination of Annie's bold online persona with her more shy and reserved live personality made her such an intriguing character. Even when I wanted to giver her a smack in the back of the head.

Then we have the Rugby playing Irish bad boy - Ronan. (And you know that I was hearing the brogue in my head!) He was all the very best parts of a true Alpha male. Bold, brash, dominant, loyal and so very loving. He was so patient with Anna and her issues. And he had quite the dirty mouth too. There was just so much about him that I liked. I do wish we had gotten more actual rugby play. That part was very much skimmed over and I missed it.

My biggest issue with the book, and I admit, it's probably all on me, is that I was reading this when all the FSoG movie hoopla was going on and it tainted the book - just a bit.  There is a scene where it comes out that Ronan likes to tie his women up, and I became fearful that an author I had enjoyed was about to join the ranks of the FSoG carbon copiers and be lost to me forever. That didn't happen, and I went on to really enjoy the book, but the timing just took a bit of the shine off overall.  I still ended up giving the book 4 stars.

Thanks to the IndieSagePromo and the authors for the opportunity to read and review the book.

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like

thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Pitching phenom Bruce "Jilly" Gillette has a hard time talking to women. His hulking presence of tattoos and muscles is what makes him an intimidating closer on the mound, yet off the field, he's painfully shy, uncomfortable in his own skin.

Desperate to revamp his loner image, the New York Kings hold a dream date contest, granting the lucky winner a night on the town with their surly reliever, doing whatever it takes to force Jilly out of his comfort zone.

Hailey Halpert enters the contest on a whim, looking for answers as to why her high school relationship with Jilly hit the skids. Now she’s a popular romance author writing under a pen name, and her reappearance in Jilly's life is no accident. It turns out that her novels are all about the sexy players on the Kings, and Jilly has no clue that he's about to become her new leading man.

Excerpt:

His clumsy attempt to show his feelings started off as something beautiful, something I'll never forget, and I want him to know that.

"Jilly…" I say tentatively, and his eyes instantly snap to mine. "The way you held me all through the night, felt so…right. The way you touched me, running your hand up and down my arm, and later when you were stroking the inside of my palm with your thumb. God…it felt so good. You didn't have to say anything. I could feel it."

"You don't know how long I'd wanted to do that," he whispers softly, his face turning red.

I smile, breaking eye contact because I'm completely overwhelmed. He's saying the words I've always wanted him to say. This is the talk we should've had a long time ago, and I want him to know everything that's in my heart.

I meet his eyes again. "What made it even better was that…you didn't have to touch me in all of those places…any other guy would have to make me want you. Your fingers on my arm were enough. I was in agony being so close to you and not being able to do anything more. I wanted you to take me somewhere, anywhere, to finish what you started—upstairs to one of the bedrooms, outside on the porch, in the back seat of the car—so I could kiss you everywhere I wanted to—but you didn't."

He's staring at me so intently that I'm afraid to go on, but I have to. I'm almost there.

"I know neither of us got much sleep that night because all I could feel was your hand caressing my body from my neck to my fingertips. But the next morning, as soon as it got light, you couldn't wait to get out of there. You started muttering to yourself about being late for something, propped me up on the side of the couch, and left me there. You didn't even say goodbye. Do you have any idea what that felt like?"

He meets my eyes for a second before looking away. "If you were tightly wound, you can imagine how I felt. You don't remember what you were doing right before that, do you? How you were running your leg up and down mine? Your knee at my—” He stops, burying his head in his hands. “I had to get out of there because I—"

I swallow, realizing now why he did what he did.

"But I could've…" I stammer. "Helped you…with that."

He pushes himself away from the table, and I'm afraid he's going to leave me sitting there all alone again. "I didn't know what to do. I—"

"Jilly, I was yours for the taking."

"Are you still?" His gaze burns into me.

I look into his soulful, brown eyes, which are holding nothing back from me. He's taking a giant leap for me now, even if he couldn't do it back when we were kids. Things could've turned out so differently if he had, but here we are, in New York City, sitting across a table from each other, four years older, four years wiser.

I’d thought he was lost to me forever, never to be a part of my life again. But he's here, offering me a second chance at what I've always wanted—to be with him.

Author Bio:

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven. Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com. She is the author of NIGHT GAMES and GAME CHANGER.

Ellaine Greene has simple desires. She just wants to do her best as the event coordinator for the local aquarium, to support environmental conservation efforts, and to keep immature man-children out of her life.

So when a major donor to the aquarium demands Ellaine find a magician for her granddaughter's birthday party, all she can imagine is a long line of card chuckers and coin flippers wearing cheesy sequined vests.

Instead, she gets Xander Hollatz, a sophisticated, powerful man in a crisp suit, with nimble fingers and a warm smile.

He's the man for the job, no doubt. And, to her surprise, she realizes he might be the man for her, too. Will she let her doubts get in the way of their feelings for each other?

And when everything goes wrong at the birthday party, will he be able to perform a miracle to save the day?

Sleight of Hand #1: Private Performance is a 17,000-word novella, introducing readers to Ellaine and Xander's passionate and tender romance, to the fascinating wildlife inhabiting the aquarium, and to the mysterious world of professional magicians

Excerpt:

Waiting for Xander didn’t do anything to relieve her tension either. Between the meeting with Josiah and the three cups of coffee she’d already downed, she couldn’t sit still in her chair. She got up and paced her office, small as it was. She thought about taking a walk around the aquarium, maybe drop in on the octopus for a visit, a creature she found weirdly hilarious. Or she could stop by the coral reef exhibit, which always calmed her and made her a little sad, too, so fragile, so endangered — a strange, surprising, and almost alien beauty in its chaotic structure — but she realized she only had a few more minutes before Xander was scheduled to arrive.

She found herself grieving for the state of the Great Barrier Reef. She began organizing the pens on her desk. I’m going out of my mind, she realized. The room felt stifling all of a sudden. She crossed to the window and lifted it open.

A knock at her open door. She looked over her shoulder. Her breath caught in her throat as she beheld Xander in the threshold. He filled out his suit so nicely.

She realized he was studying her too — then she realized the sun coming through the window was shining through her white cotton blouse, giving him an eyeful. She stepped away from the window, retreating to her desk. Her heart was beating like a terrified rabbit’s.

“Xander,” she said. “Thank you for coming back in.”

“Thank you for the second chance. I’m afraid I didn’t make a very good impression last time.” He walked swiftly to the seat across from hers. “I’d like to apologize for something I said. Last time I noticed you didn’t have any pictures of family on your desk, and I assumed it meant you… preferred animals to people. That was presumptuous of me. I’m sorry.”

The frightened little rabbit inside of her stopped quivering quite so much. His voice was so soothing. “There’s no need to apologize. I do like animals. It’s no big deal.”

He nodded, looked as though he were about to add something. Then he cleared his throat and said, “Let’s jump right in then. Is there… a kind of magic trick you hate less than other kinds?”

“I don’t hate magic,” she told him. “I just… nothing it.” She remembered that Brissa, earlier that morning, had made her promise to be nicer this time, so she added, “I don’t like tricks that go on forever, if that helps. Where the magician tells a million corny jokes?”

He was grinning and nodding. “We call that ‘patter.’ And, yeah, I totally agree. Too many magicians are in love with the sound of their own voice.”

“I don’t mind yours.” She blushed, hard. Why couldn’t she find a happy medium between hard-ass employer and shameless flirt? “I mean, it’s not awful. Is what I mean. To say.”

“I don’t mind yours either.” His eyes were shining with amusement, but she knew he wasn’t mocking her. “Do you sing?”

“Not… no, not since high school.”

“Not even in the car?”

She laughed. “Usually in the shower.”

“For me, it’s the car. Did you do show choir in high school?”

She shook her head. “Church choir.”

“That sounds… less fun,” he ventured.

“Not really any fun at all, no.” They shared a moment, enjoying the mutual agreement. “I’m guessing it was theater, for you?”

Xander laughed. “Everyone always thinks so. Nope, I was a shop class kid.”

“Really?”

He nodded. “How did you get to magic from shop class? Or were you doing magic before then?”

“Oh, I was doing magic since I was just a little kid. Learned one trick from my uncle, got hooked for life. But a lot of the same things that appeal to me about magic appealed to me as a shop kid. Planning ahead. Taking a picture I have in my mind and making something real out of it. Being good with my hands.”

As he spoke, he took a pack of cards from his jacket pocket. Oh no. Here she was, enjoying his company, and he was about to ruin it by telling her to pick a card.

But he didn’t.

To her surprise, he started building a card castle on her desk. He placed three cards down, all leaning against one another, and then placed a fourth card, an ace, on top of them.

“A table,” he announced with a wry smile.

“You learned that in shop class?”

“In a way. Shop class teaches you to look down, to pay attention to what’s holding everything up. The legs of a table, for instance.” He gestured at the three cards holding up the ace. “Or the foundation of this building, its load-bearing walls. Or the animals at the bottom of the food chain, feeding the animals at the top. How many minnows do you all go through in a week?”

It was a rhetorical question, but Ellaine was disappointed to realize she had no idea. She shook her head.

“A lot,” she said, feebly.

“I can’t imagine!” he agreed. She was grateful he ignored the gap in her knowledge. She couldn’t believe she didn’t know the answer to that question. Why didn’t she know? When had she stopped being curious about things like that?

Xander went on. “And yourself, too, and everyone else who works here. You’re all supporting the animals. I want to join you. I want to help you hold the animals up. Like the minnows. Shop class didn’t just teach me to look at what’s holding everything up, but to value it too. To see… a real kind of beauty in it. Before that, I was just doing magic tricks to impress people. To impress girls, frankly. But after I started to see the beauty in the world around me, then all of a sudden I wanted to show people what I could see. And since nobody cares about minnows, since nobody cares about the legs of a table, I show them magic instead. I show them this.”

He swept his hand under the ace, toppling all the cards beneath it.

The ace remained in the air, hovering just a few inches above her desk.

“Every minnow you’ve ever seen is a miracle. Every table, too.”

He snapped his fingers, and the card fell, joining the others on the desk.

“What I do with magic is show people the beauty around them.” Then, gazing into her eyes, he breathed, “Surprising beauty.”

A long, silent moment passed as they studied each other. Then she whispered, “I like this kind of magic.”

“Good,” he replied with a smile. “It’s my specialty.”

Interview:

Today, we welcome Reese Galloway to Musings and Ramblings. Let's all give a big Geeky welcome!

Hello! I'm honored to be here.

Let's start with some writer specific questions before moving into the fun stuff. That way everyone can really get to know the person behind the writer. We will finish things off with a round of Think Fast. Ready for the interrogation to begin?

Ready and willing.

Writing Specific

1. When is your favorite time/place to write? Do you write structured or patchworked?

I love to write while I'm eating, particularly in the evening when I can have an IPA with the meal. Things get a little more patchworky after a few pints.

2. How do you deal with Writer's Block?
When I get blocked, it's a motivational issue. So I ask my writing buddy, Ava, to yell at me. She usually doesn't have a problem doing that.

3. How involved are you with Social Media and self-promotion?
I love chatting with fans. I respond best through email and my Facebook page. I'm still figuring out how to dedicate a little time to blogging, because I'd usually rather work on a book than write about myself, my day, & what I've been reading lately.

4. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I became a homeowner recently, so I'm teaching myself how to nest. I've got a couple home improvement projects coming up, in fact. Rewiring a faulty light switch, stuff like that. I like being handy.

5. What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?
The toughest criticism came from my own brain. There's honestly nothing you could say about my writing I haven't said myself. The trick is figuring out which criticisms are going to help the story and which aren't.

But the best compliment? I have a moment toward the end of Private Perfomance that I love, personally -- but I wasn't sure whether my writing captured the moment. So I had my friend Ava read it and asked her to tell me what she thought of the story. She disappeared into her room while I chilled on the couch with her husband, watching some basketball (go Thunder). When she got to that moment, she walked out of her room with a big smile on her face and said, "The candles..." And that was the proudest I've ever been of something I've written.

Fun Stuff

1. What was the last movie/concert/show that you saw?

Don Jon. For some reason I thought it was going to be a lighthearted rom com but that's not what I got. Still, I thought it was a really good movie. I'd have a hard time figuring out how to recommend it to, though.

2. What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who talk about themselves too much. Oh... um... so how are you doing?

3. If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, fictional or real, who would it be and why?
Amy Poehler. I would ask her thoughtful, reflective questions about her experiences in Second City, her opinions on Disney princesses, her wine preferences. I'd be freaking out inside, but, hey, you gotta play it cool.

4. What would we find in your refrigerator right now?
My favorite IPA, from Marshall's Brewery, and a stout the guy at the store recommended. I've got some staples, too: jam, milk, lemon juice, salad dressing.

5. If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
This Is All My Faults. Self-depricating, yet clever.

Think Fast

1. Meat or Veggies? Veggies. *hides hamburger behind back*

2. Italian or Chinese? Italian.
3. Summer or Winter? Winter.
4. Coffee or Tea? Coffee in the morning, iced tea in the afternoon.
5. Cake or Pie? Pie.

Thanks for coming by and spending some time with us.

My pleasure. Thank you for letting me stop by.

Review:

Have you ever wished before starting a new author or series that if only you could have a sneak peek, or a taste test, you might decide to give them a try? I know I have. My free time and my funds are both valuable enough that I don't want to waste them on something that just doesn't suit me. The beauty of what Reese Galloway has done with the start of this series is to give us just that... A sneaky little taste of the goodness that is sure to follow in this new series.

The first book is a novella, basically the meet-cute for the couple. We get the front row seat as Ellaine, the event coordinator for an aquarium, meets the mysterious Xander, magician extraordinaire.  For some reason, in my head, I had magician synonymous with dominating alpha like personality, aka Mr. Macho. But he wasn't that. Confident? Yes. Jerk? No. He showed a more sensitive side that was a nice compliment to Ellaine's hesitance.  There is an extremely sexy scene near the end of this story and it was interesting knowing a man had written it through Ellaine's POV. We get to know Ellaine fairly well, while Xander remains, largely, a man of mystery. I look forward to learning more about him in the coming books.

By reading, (and enjoying) this first novella, I feel rather confident in continuing the series, certain I will enjoy it. If the blurb interests you, I encourage you to grab this first book and give it your own taste test. You might just find a new author to enjoy. My taste test rating? 3 stars.

Ellaine Greene has a new man in her life, the famous magician Xander Hollatz. He's ripped, kind, and mysterious -- nothing like her ex-husband. He has even volunteered to perform at her aquarium's annual fundraising gala. But she's still having trouble leaving the past behind, especially when her ex shows up to beg for money.

Before the new couple knows it, someone's trying to break into Xander's mansion to steal the secrets of his many famous illusions. Ellaine's ex becomes their prime suspect. But maybe it's actually the up-and-coming street magician they've befriended. Or maybe it's even someone from Xander's mysterious past.

Whoever the thief is, if he uncovers and reveals the secret of Xander's newest illusion for the fundraiser, the event will be a disaster. Ellaine may lose her job.

And there's a still greater question: Is this feeling they share together just lust -- or is it something more?

Find out in this 74,000-word book, the second volume in the Sleight of Hand series.
