"Just a Spoon Full of Sugar"
Mary Poppins - Mary Shepard,P.L. Travers

Review:

Mary Poppins is such a great way to introduce students imagination. This book could be used in so many ways in a classroom. Mary Poppins is a most unusual nanny to the Banks children. She uses her magic carpet bag to pull out several items that should not fit in a bag. She also does fun things such as jumping into a chalk painting in the park and everything came to life.

Leveling System:

Lexile- 600L

Classroom Activity:

I would use this book as a book study for my classroom. Some of the activities that I would include are a comparison between some of the characters. I would also allow the students to come up with their own creative addition to the book that they would have liked Mary Poppins to have done. We would also have a "Movie Day" so that the students could make a compare and contrast chart between the book and the movie.

MARY POPPINS by P. L. Travers
Mary Poppins - Mary Shepard,P.L. Travers

Mary Poppins comes as a nanny to the Banks' children.  They go on adventures with her but are they real?  Only Mary Poppins knows for sure.

Mary Poppins is a curmudgeon.  She can discipline with only a look.  I liked the children.  Their wide-eyed awe is on display.  Every day is an adventure with Mary Poppins.  The story is a series of short vignettes of adventures or stories Mary Poppins tells.  The adults are not prevalent.  They are on the sidelines. This sets up the series of books I want to read because I want to know what other adventures they go on.

Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins - Mary Shepard,P.L. Travers

Another Backseat Bookshelf read.

Reminiscent of Paddington in that each chapter reads like a self-contained adventure. I liked some better than others. Also the use of "Red Indian" at the very end of the book was a big turnoff.

Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane - P.L. Travers

A fun read filled with lots of silliness.

This is the first Mary Poppins book I have read.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. There is not so much in the form of traditional plot, more of a rolling story, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Some magic, some silliness, and lots of nonsensical talk.

Creative and imaginative work.

Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins - Mary Shepard,P.L. Travers *2.5 stars
I do have to say that I enjoyed the plot and the sort of nonsense which happened in it. But with that said, I didn't enjoy the characters, and that is why my rating is so low. Even though a plot can be good, if I don't like the characters I am not really going to like it in general. So I won't be continuing on with this series.
