Halloween Carnival Volume 4 Kealan Patrick Burke, Ray Garton, Bev Vincent, C. A. Suleiman, and Paul Melniczek
Halloween Carnival Volume 4 - Kealan Patrick Burke,C.A. Suleiman,Ray Garton,Brian James Freeman,Bev Vincent

Halloween Carnival Volume 4 is the 4th book in a 5 book series. Each book features 5 short stories written by a different author. These books are pretty short. Only takes a little of an hour to read the whole book. A new book will be released each week of October in 2017. The final book will be released on Halloween.

The stories are scary or creepy. I think they were more creepy then scary. I really enjoyed this book. I liked seeing each of the authors style of writing.  I liked all of the stories but if I have to choose a favorite it would be THE HALLOWEEN TREE by Bev Vincent.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.

Shackled
Shackled - Ray Garton This one is about as brutal as it gets. Every bad thing that could possibly happen, happens. In spades. From a period eating pope to a coffin full of maggots to a strap-on granny. Yep, this baby has it all.

The narrator for this one sucked sweaty donkey balls. Clocking in at over 24-1/2 fricking hours, that was a big problem for me. I honestly don’t know why I listened to the whole thing. Evidently, I didn’t have anything better to do. I wish I would have read it instead, because the story was good and dark, but it lost at least a full star for the Toontown-esque narration clusterf*ck.

Otter in space
Otter in Space (I Am Otter) - Sam Garton,Sam Garton

by Sam Garton

Age range: 3 to 7 years old

Otter liked many thing he saw in this visit to the museum with Teddy and Otter Keeper, but the best of all of them was the Outer Space Room. All he can think about now is in having a moon rock to play with! The only solution seems to be going to the Moon and bring a rock. Time to get prepared! There are space suits to design, a spaceship to build, and some training to do. Finally Otter and Teddy are ready to go. They launch from the top to the slide, and they land on the backyard. The perfect moon rock is right there, waiting for being dug out and brought back to Earth. Otter Keeper is not really happy with the outcome, but Otter and Teddy are ready for more adventures at the Moon!

Otter is the most adorable character I have seen in a long time. I love all the (screen free) fun he has using only his imagination, his toys, and some "help" from his friends. It made me feel like making a spaceship with my kids this weekend. All I need now is an appropriate box and some delicious treats. Going to outer space needs a lot of extra energy.

I'm glad to know this book is part of a series, because I really want to join Otter in more adventures!

Ravenous - Ray Garton
Ravenous - Ray Garton

A woman is brutally raped and her attacker is taken to the morgue. When the sheriff goes to the morgue to see if he can identify the dead assailant, the body isn't there. Soon a naked man is spotted running out of the hospital's ER doors. The sheriff sends his deputy after the man and the deputy ends up brutally murdered in a disemboweling that is determined was done by a large, unseen, wolf-like animal. At the scene of one killing, a mysterious man shoots a "killer" leaving a mysterious, half-changed body that resembles both a human and a wolf. The strangers informs the sheriff that "he's got a werewolf infestation" in his small Northern California town of Big Rock and that its spread as a STD.

I have to give Garton an A for creativity. I love how he updates the lycanthrope mythology and interweaves it in a tightly written thrill fest. The main characters are distinctive and no one is above being the next victim. The blood pours from the pages as the carnage piles up. The werewolves are vicious and show no mercy. This is my first read of Garton's work and I highly recommend it.

4 1/2 silver bullets out of 5
