Want a little magic with your romance?
Batter Up - Robyn Neeley

This was a fun read with a little magical baking thrown in. The fantasy element gave a nice little twist and made for some good laughs.

Emma's been hosting Batter Up night for a couple years now, continuing her grandmother's tradition of nudging bachelors toward their true love with a little magic cake batter. Too bad the magic only gives the names of men's sweethearts and not women. Emma's cousin Abby keeps trying though, and she pulls a "J" out of the batter for Emma.

Jason is a journalists who's spent too much time on the down and dirty crime beat of Miami. A detour to Buttermilk Falls to expose a con-artist in a bakeshop sounds like a great diversion. Little does he know how this trip will change his life and his heart.

I really enjoyed the chemistry and the snarkiness between these two as they fought it out and gave in to their attraction.

Rating--PG-13. All sex is closed door, but there is quite a bit of talk about it.

Review - Batter Up by Robyn Neeley
Batter Up - Robyn Neeley

Batter Up
by Robyn Neeley
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 18, 2014

She mixes more than flour and sugar into her cake batter, and he’s about to find out if a little bit of magic is to his taste...

Bakeshop owner Emma Stevens has a secret — a delicious, slightly unorthodox secret. Each Monday, she mixes up a premonition to share with the bachelors of Buttermilk Falls, and sets one lucky man on the path to true love.

When reporter Jason Levine finds himself mixed up in a Las Vegas bachelorette party, he hears the strangest rumour: the marriage is happening thanks to magic cake batter. Seriously sceptical, and sick of frauds, Jason journeys to the backwater town of Buttermilk Falls to expose the baker and release the townspeople from her evil clutches.

But when Jason meets Emma, tempers flare and sparks fly. Will Jason cling to his logic at the expense of a future, or will he let himself fall under Emma’s spell?

What a cute, quick read this was! It was so easy to fall in love with the residents of Buttermilk Falls and get caught up in the “magic” of Batter Up on Monday Nights. The characters were fun and engaging, the townspeople were colorful, and even the out-of-towners were quick to see just how special this little town and its residents were.

Jason and Emma were a great couple. It was fun watching Emma go to such lengths to fight her attraction to Jason – from her outrageous bidding at the Spring Fling auction to her behavior at the kissing booth, her heart was so quick to always over-rule what her head was telling her. And once she finally decides to trust in Jason, it was such a nice relief to see her let him into her heart. Of course love is never easy, and these two always seemed to be in the middle of some sort of conflict – usually caused by either mis-communication or Emma’s high school nemesis Caitlin.

I just loved the supporting cast in this book, especially Emma’s cousin Abby and Jason’s best friend Brandon. I’m not sure if Ms. Nealy has any intentions on writing their story or not, but I just know if she does put pen to paper that we would sure be in for a treat learning more about these two! From Betty at the diner, to the ladies in the hair salon, the entire town had a charm and color that was easy to fall in love with.

I really enjoyed this book. If you are looking for a sweet romance with some fun characters, then this is one to add to your TBR list!

I was given a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

  • A small, lakeside town in Upstate New York filled with fun and fabulous characters
  • A bakery that dishes up a little extra to the bachelors of Buttermilk Falls every Monday night
  • A third-generation baker witch who creates a magical batter for those bachelors with every stir
  • A third-generation baker who can match everyone else up successfully, but lacks a certain someone in her own live

Batter Up
Batter Up - Robyn Neeley Super, super cute story. I loved just about everything about this book. Jason and his friend were very attractive and had personality. Emma was sensitive and sweet, and her cousin was a pretty funny girl! The setting of this story was picturesque, complete with a lake, cottages, docks, etc. I could easily picture myself right there. The descriptions of food in the story was excellent. Not just the sweets from the bakery, but other food and drinks throughout the story were described in delicious detail. The romance(s) in the story seemed very authentic, and I especially liked that the author did not go into a detailed play by play of the intimate scenes. I definitely enjoyed reading this story!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
