The Scandalous Flirt (Cinderella Sisterhood Series) - Olivia Drake

I had trouble getting into this one. It started out slow and didn't pick up until chapter 9 when she is caught in his bed chamber looking for the letters. Once they team up to find the letters and blackmailer, the story does get better. Their romance was slow to start and there were some surprise villains and twists to who stole the letters and with her half sister Celeste. The surprises kept it interesting and book ended well.  Lucas was a strong male lead and his dilemma about whether he should marry the woman he has loved for years even though she is poor, or marry an heiress in order to save his family added some suspense to the plot.  I can't say it was my favorite story I've read this year but it was enjoyable.

Fantastic Historical Romance!
The Scandalous Flirt (Cinderella Sisterhood Series) - Olivia Drake

The Scandalous Flirt by Olivia Drake is an amazing, well-written book.  Ms Drake has furnished her story with phenomenal characters.  The characters made this book a joy to read.  Lucas and Rory's story is full of drama, suspense, adventure and sizzle.  Be warned though, the housework may be put on hold.  Once you start this book you may not want to put it down.  I enjoyed this book from start to finish and look forward to reading more from Olivia Drake in the future.  The Scandalous Flirt is book 6 of the Cinderella Sisterhood Series but can be read as a standalone.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book that I received from NetGalley.

The Scandalous Flirt
The Scandalous Flirt (Cinderella Sisterhood Series) - Olivia Drake

Usually I am wary at picking up a book that is in the middle of a series that I have not read before. I always fear that I will feel lost and not know what is going on. Luckily that was not the case with this book as I did not feel lost or that I was missing anything.

In the beginning I definitely liked Rory way more than I liked Lucas. While they both had their struggles, (Rory being banished from London after a scandal with a lover and Lucas dealing with debts) Rory seemed to have grown more and become stronger than Lucas. Lucas was just a plain jerk in the beginning and I feared that he would be like that throughout the book. Luckily the more that I read the more I began to like him.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. I did enjoy that this was not dominated with steamy scenes but instead you really got to know the characters. Don't get me wrong there were some great steamy moments between Rory and Lucas.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the galley.

Scandalous Ever After by Theresa Romain
Scandalous Ever After (Romance of the Turf) - Theresa Romain

This review can also be found at Carole's Random Life in Books.

I really enjoyed this book! This is the first book by Theresa Romain that I have had the chance to read and it ended up being a great one. This book is listed as the second book in the Romance on the Turf series but it can be read fine as a stand alone novel. Once I really got hooked by the story, I didn't want to put this book down. I kept sneaking peeks throughout the day and before you knew it, I had reached the end of the story.

Kate and Evan are the focus of this story. Kate became a widow two years ago when her husband died in an accident. She is working to take care of the debts left by her husband. Evan was Kate's husband's best friends. They consider each other friends as well but Evan fought with Con just prior to his death and has stayed away since his passing. Kate and Evan cross paths at one of his lectures and they decide to travel together.

I liked Kate and Evan together. They have been friends for a very long time and know a lot about each other but quickly learn that not everything is as they had thought. I really liked the fact that they were a bit older and seemed more mature than a lot of couples featured in romantic novels. Kate has been married and is the mother of two children. They both had a lot of respect for each other and were willing to stand up for themselves when needed. I thought the chemistry between them was wonderfully done and their banter was a lot of fun.

I really liked the way the story flowed. Since Kate and Evan spend a lot of the book traveling, we get to see them in several different environments. Kate's family were so much fun and I loved how Evan seemed to fit in perfectly. Evan's family were in dramatic contrast and it was fun to see them interact. Once the pair arrived at Kate's estate, I enjoyed the way they were with the children and Con's mother. The secondary characters really added to the overall story.

I would recommend this book to fans of historical romance. This was a heartwarming romance that was a lot of fun to read. I can't wait to read more of Theresa Romain's works in the future.

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley.

Initial Thoughts
I really enjoyed this! Kate and Evan had wonderful chemistry and I loved their banter. The story was just a lot of fun.

The Ice Duchess
The Ice Duchess: Scandalous Regency Widows, Book 2 - Amy Rose Bennett

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts...

This is what I thought in a nutshell. Looking at the reviews, I seem to be the minority here but it’s what it is. The Ice Duchess by Amy Rose Bennett wasn’t what I had anticipated it would be. I have been waiting for this one since I read book 1 of Scandalous Regency Widows, Lady Beauchamp’s Proposal. While I absolutely adored book 1, this did not hold my attentions for long.

Our h, Georgiana had a sad past, which made her so wary of men that she’d not fall in love or marry. Since she also didn’t want to spend her life as a spinster, Georgiana or Georgie as her family calls her, ended up marrying a good friend Teddy, who was also a Duke. But there was a secret to their marriage not everyone knew, and the few who did, never talked about it. Georgiana’s brother, Jonathan, is gay. And Teddy was his lover. With the taboo surrounding the whole thing, they had to find a way to continue on. Georgiana was eager to help too.
