Shameful
Shameful - Nana Malone,M. Malone I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I received both [b:Shameless|34070314|Shameless|M. Malone|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1492723166s/34070314.jpg|55080890] and Shameful at the same time, and I read them back to back, so I'm going to review them both right here. Because of that, this will be a general review of the characters and overall feel of the storyline - which is pretty much what I do anyway. :-)

Lucia is so freaking tired of her "big brother" Noah always watching over her. She's unable to live her own life, go out with men, stray from whatever safe life he wants her to live... Well, she's had enough. She's also looking into the mystery that surrounds the day that her real brother died. Lucia is feisty, headstrong, and utterly confused by her emotions concerning Noah.

Noah is incensed that Lucia is going out with someone not worthy of her, and he *definitely* needs her to stop looking into her brother's murder. It's about time for him to make an actual appearance in her life. The danger isn't one-sided however, because Lucia isn't his sister by blood, and Noah has feelings for her that definitely aren't brotherly.

Noah is dark, dangerous, devious, and oh so delicious. Lucia is definitely all-woman - and she doesn't back down when she realizes he's attracted to her. So what's the problem then? Hoo boy... you're gonna want to find that out for yourself.

These books are AMAZING, and yes, there are cliffhangers. Luckily, you can read all the way through to the end by the end of June 2017 - which is right around the corner from the date of this review. I gobbled these two books up in one sitting because they were just that good.

Highly recommended, 4.5 stars for both books!

Shameful
Shameful - Nana Malone,M. Malone The draw of Noah Blake is he's flawed. He struggles with his past, his future and his heart like everyone else. He's just better at hiding it. That is why I am quickly becoming enamored with this character. Getting caught up is easy. Waiting for what happens next? Not so much. Shameful is an exciting addition to a mouthwatering series.

Review: Charlie's Requiem by A. American and Walt Browning
Charlie's Requiem: A Going Home Novella - A. American

When I noticed this book, I was happy.  I've enjoyed A. American's Survivalist Series and while I have not read the fifth book, Resurrecting Home, yet, figured that a novella would be a sure a thing.

I was wrong.

I am so very disappointed in A. American (known as Angery American).  While I enjoyed getting to know Charlie and the other characters in the world originally created by The Survivalist Series, I was furious to find American and Browning put out what amounts to a serial instead of a novella.  Even more furious when reading their explanation of perhaps there will be more of Charlie if readers respond well.

I am giving this novella 4 stars because the characters were well developed and in an era of independent authors putting out (and charging people for) works that are not edited.  Then I am taking away three stars for not putting out even a finished novella.  A. American is a decent author, he did not have to stoop to this despicable tactic.  Shame, A. American and Walt Browning, SHAME.

"A Lisbeth Salander novel" - as if! And "continuing Stieg Larsson's Millennium Series"? My ass.
The Girl in the Spider's Web - David Lagercrantz

I'm sorry, but this went on my "hell no!" shelf faster than you could say 'Mike'. Because honestly? It doesn't even matter to me of it is a good thriller per se, or not.

This book is everything Stieg Larsson's life partner has been fighting against ever since he left this world way before his time. Stieg Larsson was a brilliant writer and was, as far as I'm concerned, one of the most authentic and GOOD men this world and profession has seen in a long time.

What made his works so terrific was his extraordinary eye for detail, his talent to draw you in with even the most mundane descriptions of people's actions or thoughts. And he kept you absolutely hooked with his carefully drawn, wonderfully complex and unconventional (anti-)heroes.

Now, under normal circumstances, it is almost impossible to reach the standards he set for his series and genre. And even though I was saddened beyond belief that the other 7 books of his Millenium Saga weren't finished before his untimely death, I also believe in the right of every author to decide what to publish or not. Fact of the matter is, Larsson didn't publish more books in the series because they weren't done. Because he didn't want to! And his partner is still fighting for his scripts and drafts to remain unpublished and not being used by somebody else.

So this book right here? Has NOTHING to do with Stieg Larsson. Absolutely nothing. I find it insulting and more than a little disrespectful to use his name for something that 1. is not even really inspired by his own vision for the series - because his scripts are still being guarded by his life partner and 2. is a result of somebody along the line thinking: "What the hell? So he's dead. Let's just do it ourselves, it can't be that hard." Because f* you very much. It is THAT hard. Least of all because it's not your freaking story to continue!

So I'm not going to touch this one. Like I said, maybe it's not even a bad book. But I absolutely don't care. Right here, the wishes and ideas of an author are hurt post mortem, with no regard to his personal ideals, visions or feelings while he was still alive.

IMHO, there are few ways to completely disrespect one of the most authentic and brilliant writers of our time and his legacy more than this thing does. It's shameful, wrong and I hate it.

That's all.
