I Judge You When You Use Poor Grammar
I Judge You When You Use Poor Grammar: A Collection of Egregious Errors, Disconcerting Bloopers, and Other Linguistic Slip-Ups - Sharon Eliza Nichols

So, here's the thing:  this is a cute, funny compilation of pictorial examples of bad grammar from around the world.  I laughed out loud out more than a few of them.

But I found a grammar error in one of the photo captions.  On page 96 ("Exhibits like sightseeing as much everyone else.").

Oops.

Book Haul Feb 12
Used and Rare: Travels in the Book World - Lawrence Goldstone,Nancy Goldstone
I Judge You When You Use Poor Grammar: A Collection of Egregious Errors, Disconcerting Bloopers, and Other Linguistic Slip-Ups - Sharon Eliza Nichols
Mental Floss: What's the Difference? - Mental Floss
Epic Tomatoes: How to Select and Grow the Best Varieties of All Time - Craig Lehoullier

I'm on a huge non-fiction kick at the moment; I think it's possible I have more non-fiction waiting to be read than fiction.  I'm guessing after reading 26 cozies straight in January my brain is trying to over compensate.

Used and Rare: Travels in the Book World - I've already started this one and I'm loving it so much.  It's got a lot more humour in the writing than I was expecting.  A lot more.

I Judge You When You Use Poor Grammar: A Collection of Egregious Errors, Disconcerting Bloopers, and Other Linguistic Slip-Ups - Grim brought this to my attention and I couldn't resist it for the potential chuckles.

Mental Floss: What's the Difference? - I really got more out of their World History book than I expected to, so I have high hopes for this one.  I suspect there will be a lot of things here I already know the difference between, but just flipping through it I've seen a few that I thought "ha!  I always confuse those two!" so I'm hoping there'll be some gems here.

Epic Tomatoes: How to Select and Grow the Best Varieties of All Time - We already grow too many tomatoes each summer but I love growing the ones that are all different colors (I have one this year that's pink and gold striped!  too pretty to eat!) and this book just called out to me.  I read it the first two days I had it and it's got some good advice and tips in it and gorgeous photos.

Funny, but inconsistent...
I Judge You When You Use Poor Grammar: A Collection of Egregious Errors, Disconcerting Bloopers, and Other Linguistic Slip-Ups - Sharon Eliza Nichols

Just what I needed: something short, that didn't take too much brain power, that made me laugh out loud.   Funny, but as I mention, inconsistent.   Some photographs are laugh-out-loud funny and others I just kind of shrugged over.

There are also captions, scathingly telling you what went wrong with these signs.   Again, some are laugh-out-loud funny and others I shrugged at.   If the commentary had been a little more consistent, I probably would have bumped this up one-half star.

Then again, I may have rated this lower at another time.   It was just the thing I needed, though, making both my mom and me laugh out loud multiple times while reading this book.   It hit the spot for us both, and made what could have been a truly dreary day a little less dreary.

I thank the editor, and author of the captions, for that.   It probably also meant I was a little more kind to this than I may have been otherwise, but sometimes you find just the book you need at just the right moment.  This is what happened with this book.

Also, thanks to the Newbury Comics staff who helped me find this, even as I described what I needed - something funny that could be set aside if one didn't have the attention span for it as sometimes my mom can get a shorter attention span on specific medications.  No cats, swearing is okay, no coloring books, and on and on.   She was kind and patient throughout the interaction, although they love me for occasionally bringing them coffee - which they thrive on there - so they always treat me well, even though I usually don't get this picky.

She picked out a perfect book, and both my mother and I were really happy with this one.   It passed a little of the time before I get kicked out.   (I feel guilty if I'm not here, and my mom feels guilty if I'm here too much.   She's already pushed for my dad and I to get coffee, but neither of us want to.)

We are, however, going to get coffee in the cafeteria nearby.   She's going to kick me out to go to my Monday night dinner group because she's like.   (She says she wants us to have a life outside the hospital, but, yeah, we mostly want to be here with her.  I go to all my social things I already have in place, or else she worries that I'll get depressed, so it's partly for me and partly because not going would worry her and she really doesn't need that.   It's not super-altruistic, but it sounds shitty when I say  it here, and it's not completely shitty.)

Regardless, I didn't have the energy to get up and go to get coffee before I read this.   This bolstered my spirit and gave me more energy.   Yay for that.

Got this for my mom
I Judge You When You Use Poor Grammar: A Collection of Egregious Errors, Disconcerting Bloopers, and Other Linguistic Slip-Ups - Sharon Eliza Nichols

She's laughing really hard.  I'm enjoying this book because it's bringing her happiness.   Vicarious enjoyment of a book.
