Stellaluna - Janell Cannon

I remember reading this back when I was in elementary school. This book is a charming story about a bat that was raised by a family of birds. I like how easily the Mama Bird took in Stellaluna and raised her as her own. This book would be great for a lesson about bats.

Stellaluna - Janell Cannon

A bird raising a bat sounds uncommon but in Stellaluna that is exactly what happens. Stellaluna is separated from her family and ends being taken in by birds. This is a great story representing acceptance and family. The leveling system is The Lexile, reading level AD550L. The class can participate in on open class Venn-diagram comparing birds and bats.

Stellaluna
Stellaluna (Perfect Paperback) - Janell Cannon

Stellaluna is a sweet book that teaches children the importance of friendship. This book helps students understand that even if they do not have much in common with someone it does not mean they can not develop a sweet friendship. I would incorporate this book with a science lesson about bats. The book has two pages dedicated to teaching children about bats so it will be a fun way to integrate two subjects into one. I think younger students will absolutely love this book and science activity!

Stellaluna

Guided Reading: Level N

This is a great book that you could align with science. This is a story about a bat that gets lost and then is raised by birds. But then meets other bats and learns how to be a bat again. I would do a lesson about bats and read this book because it has great descriptions of bats.

Stellaluna
Stellaluna - Janell Cannon

With this books reading level at ages 2 and up, this book is great for any age. You and your students will fall in love with this book and the cute animal characters such as the main character, a fruit bat named Stellaluna. When Stellaluna gets lost, she must give up her bat-like ways to survive when she is take in by a nest of birds. In the end, Stellaluna learns an important lesson about being yourself.

I absolutely love this book because ,as a teacher, you can use this book so many ways in your classroom. My favorite way to use this book in a classroom, however, is to use it while learning about bats in science!
