Wires And Nerve: Gone Rogue by Marissa Meyer
Wires and Nerve, Volume 2: Gone Rogue - Marissa Meyer,Douglas Holgate,Stephen Gilpin

I love the Lunar Chronicles!
Cinder, Scarlet, and Iko are all back in this graphic look at the Lunar world. The wolves are trying to kill Cinder and reading through it all is a page turner, even if I already know the story. The graphic novels are the same story, but told differently with more tongue-in-cheek. I liked the writing in the novels, but the snark in some of the characters is heavier here. Makes some more interesting, to say the least.
Fans, you have to read these though. It brings the characters and the lunar world to life.

4.5/5

Mrs. Thomas' Booklike pick
Sneezy the Snowman - Maureen Wright,Stephen Gilpin

Sneezy the Snowman keeps getting cold. He wants things to warm him up, but he keeps choosing the wrong things. The kids keep helping rebuild him and figure out a way to keep him warm without making him melt.

Lexile Measure: AD500L

I would use this with an activity where the students made a melted snowman out of puff paint and a writing activity where they tell why their snowman melted.

The conclusion of a totally O.K. follow-up to the Lunar Chronicles
Wires and Nerve, Volume 2: Gone Rogue - Marissa Meyer,Douglas Holgate,Stephen Gilpin

I'm really not sure what to say about this one. It's part two of the story begun in Wires and Nerve where Iko is tasked with hunting down rogue Lunar wolf warriors scattered over the Earth. We also see what reforms Cinder is bringing to the Lunar government and what happens to the rest of the main characters from The Lunar Chronicles following Winter.

Honestly, I think I'm going to just copy and paste from the last book, because this is really just part 2 of that same story and my comments stay the same:

The Lunar wolf warriors are not just going to roll over, there are some that are preparing to strike back against Iko -- and Cinder.

Throw in a love story, an examination of Iko's true nature, and some nice catch-up with our old friends, and you've got yourself a fun story. It's fun, but it's light. If it were prose instead of a graphic novel, it might take 40 pages to tell this story. Which doesn't make it bad, just slight.

I was shocked to see a different artist credited with this one -- maybe my memory is shakier than I realized, but man...I thought it was the same stuff. Gilpin did a great job keeping the look the same. Yeah, cartoonish -- but it fits the story. It's dynamic, eye catching and fun -- just what Iko's story should be.

I'm glad I read these two, but I hope Meyer walks away from this world now to focus on whatever's next. Read this if you read the first. If you're curious about what happens after Winter, these two are a fun way to scratch that itch, but totally unessential.

Wires and Nerve Vol. 2
Wires and Nerve, Volume 2: Gone Rogue - Marissa Meyer,Douglas Holgate,Stephen Gilpin

I loved this graphic novel! There was more action, a bit of romance, and of course, Meyer's fantastic humor. All the characters from the original Lunar Chronicles series are once again back battling a rogue band of hybrid wolf soldiers.

At one point my heart stopped while reading this book. I was definitely on the edge of my seat with some of the twists and turns. If you enjoyed volume 1 you will really enjoy volume 2. The conclusion was satisfying and I was happy to see that this book was 86 pages longer than the last. I still had no problem reading the book in one sitting, but the bigger the book the happier I am.

I hope Meyer plans to create more graphic novels in the future. I had her newest book, Renegades all set to read next. I've been looking forward to it for quite some time, but I made the mistake of wandering into a bookstore, and two Meyer books later here we are. Not that I'm complaining! I am more than happy to have multiple Meyer books to read back to back.

Gone Rogue
Wires and Nerve, Volume 2: Gone Rogue - Marissa Meyer,Douglas Holgate,Stephen Gilpin

This pains me to say, but though the writing was a 5, the art was a 2 at most, so all together I gave this volume a 3. I also think that some of the suspense with this volume doesn't work if you read [Stars Above] since you get to see the group with their HEA. So maybe it would have been better to just have the group dealing with things after [redacted ].

"Gone Rogue" is the second and last volume in "Wires and Nerves." This time Meyer does not just focus on Iko. She instead includes everyone in a better way than she did in volume 1. I still needed more Thorne and Jacin though. We do get more of Cress, Scarlett, and Wolf so that was an upside to this volume.

"Gone Rogue" has Iko and the rest of our Lunar Chronicles heroes trying to do what they can to stop a murderous group of bio-engineered wolves from wrecking havoc on Earth. They demand that Cinder reverses the procedures are they are taking out everyone. The leader of the group seems fixated on Cinder. I get why he's angry, but he's definitely taking it out on the wrong person here.

The writing as I said was great. The flow in this one was much better. You get to complete arcs in the chapters you read. And I have to say that the ending made me smile.

But as I said in the first volume, the artwork is lacking. Why does Winter have a terrible afro? Can you tell me why everyone has the same face? I think some pops of color would have dressed up the drabness of the color scheme and artwork. I know not everything can compare to [Stephen King's The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born|] but I kept comparing the two graphic novels and definitely thought that the later work is heads and shoulders above "Gone Rogue."
