Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island - Michael Phillip Cash

Paul's wife Allison has just died and he has to return to work, cope with his grief, his children's grief. As a ghost story it wasn't spooky enough or horrible enough and neither is it a "must read with lights on" story. If a demon is included in a book then I want to be frightened or at least left feeling chilled, but it didn't happen in this tale. I loved the idea but it didn't really come off for me. Other people will love this - the ones who prefer not to be too scared when they read a ghost story!

Good scary story.
Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island - Michael Phillip Cash

I love a good ghost story and this is definitely one. It pulled on my heart strings for the family and had me looking over my shoulder when I heard noises at night. As things resolved, I did not quite expect the answers. This story follows the living and the dead, and I really enjoyed this book.

~Haunted Mourning~

Paul Russo, a successful Long Island realtor, has lost his wife, his true soul mate, to a brain tumor. The deceased Allison has left behind a loving, distraught husband and three young children. It has only been a week since Allison passed away, dying, despite the expensive, holistic, experimental treatments that Paul sought, one after the other, grasping at new hope with each. Finally, after Allison is just a shell of her former self, she holds up a hand. Allison has had enough. Paul must let her go. She can no longer fight the monstrous cancer inside her head. It has only been a week. Paul and the children, victims of their mother's disease, struggle with grief and monumental loss. The twins, both thirteen, are angry and withdrawn. Stella, the baby of the family, still feels her mother's presence. Stella insists that Allison is still amongst them. Paul cannot go on without Allison. He cannot do this alone. The children want their mother. None are willing to let her go even though Allison has already left them. It has only been a week. It is during this week of mourning that Paul begins to lose his mind despite his best efforts to push forward, give the kids some stability.

Paul returns to work. He must. Allison's illness has cost them everything. Stillwell Manor, an old, ancestral home of Paul's wealthy acquaintances, Craig and Melissa Andrews, would bring a great commission if Paul could actually sell it. The Stillwell manor, named so after the well that resides on the property under two weeping willows, is over two hundred years old, with a sordid, haunted past. Adding to it's spooky persona is the recent murder-suicide of Craig's parents. Mr. Andrews shot and killed his wife, then turned the shotgun on himself. The home's dark past and present will soon become Paul's nightmares. Paul reminds himself that he's stressed. The nightmares are only dreams. But when he sees his dead wife looking at him through a bedroom window at Stillwell, Paul begins to question his sanity. Eerie voices communicating through the radio, nightmares that leave Paul bruised and scratched, orbs that touch and electrify, grisly apparitions. What is going on? Stillwell Manor will force Paul to face unimaginable demons.

I read this book during the late nights for added effect. The book had a sorrowful tone that easily brought darkness about. The characters were in so much pain and grief, I just wanted to comfort each. I also got up to turn on another light here and there. This was an adult ghost story written with maturity. I related well to Paul's story. I lost a child and I know all too well how grief can manifest itself into all kinds of dark thoughts, leaving one feeling haunted day and night. If you're looking for guts and gore, well, this book is not your journey. However, if you're looking for a haunting tale, filled with raw emotion, this book is all yours.

Book Review ~ Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island by Michael Phillip Cash
Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island - Michael Phillip Cash

Synopsis~

Paul Russo's wife just died. While trying to get his family's life back in order, Paul is being tormented by a demon who is holding his wife's spirit hostage on the other side. His fate is intertwined with an old haunted mansion on the north shore of Long Island called Stillwell Manor. Paul must find clues dating back hundreds of years to set his wife's soul free.

My Thoughts~

Mr. Cash has created a haunting and gripping story that was well paced with just the right amount of spookiness and intrigue that kept me interested throughout. I could not help but become attached to the characters as the author’s writing ability and style really drew me in and made me connect with them, not only on a personal level but an emotional one as well. I could not put this one down as I had to find out how this story was going to end. With so many twists and turns, I really did not know what to expect with the ending, and was really quite happy with the outcome. And guess what? NO CLIFFHANGER. Nope, this story actually ends with the last page, tied up with a nice little bow and leaving you with a smile on your face.

Michael Phillip Cash is a new author for me, but after reading Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island, I am definitely adding him to my list of favorite authors. If you are looking for something to read with a little paranormal, laced with mystery and suspense mixed with a touching love story, then I would recommend that you give this book a try.

*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A Haunting Tale
Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island - Michael Phillip Cash

We all know I love a good haunting, and Stillwell delivers.

Paul is coping with the loss of his wife and trying to find normalcy for himself and his three kids getting them back into a routine and continuing his work as a talented realtor.

Odd things begin to happen to Paul and intensify when he takes a listing for Stillwell, a huge manor with a tragic history.

With dreams of his wife haunting him every night and apparitons appearing to him at Stillwell, Paul believes he is going crazy. Will he find normal life? will he solve the ghostly mysteries surrounding him?

The history and the hauntings will have you turning the pages of this stirring tale.

A perfect read in stormy weather!!!
