Bright Star by Talia R. Blackwood
Bright Star - Talia R. Blackwood

Nicely written, very nicely.
The only disappointment is crazy amount of sex, especially for someone who has just come out of 90+ year sleep. Wouldn't food and drink and running away from the aliens be the main priority?

Loved the switching POVs - surprise! =)

The book is written in Present Tense which bugged the hell out of me, but I can't hold it against the author. My problem entirely.

Bright Star
Bright Star - Talia R. Blackwood
BR, February 23rd with Marte, Momo and Julie.

3,5 stars

Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever—or else swoon to death.

(John Keats, Bright Star, 1819)

This was SciFi, people and it obviously takes a lot of time traveling through space, but the time these guys were forced to spend without each other was painful…

I loved Phae, the guardian clone. His only purpose in life, why he exists, was to take care of his “Prince”. He was loyal and very kind-hearted, but sooo lonely.

Prince was being held frozen in a sarcophagus and wasn’t supposed to wake up for another 20 years.. One day the lights of the sarcophagus run red and Prince begins to “unfrost”

And then the two meet and boy were they combustible!! image image

description

The insta love did feel a bit unrealistic, especially their making love, while aliens were running around
So this was a nice love story that survived time and other obstacles!!

“Can you say that special thing for me, Phae?”
“I love you more than my life, Prince,” I say without thinking about it for a moment.
His eyes sparkle. He sinks his nails into my shoulders, dragging me toward his mouth. “Now I am finally free to say it. I love you too, Phae.

Oh my god...I do not even know what to say about that.  Mesmerizing writing, great concept but all in all...I felt we got a trilogy crammed into a relatively short single book. SOOOOOO much was missing and rushed.

**** 4 Bright Stars ****

You need a pillow to read this book.

You need it for comfort so the loneliness of Phae's existence won't break your heart.

You need it to grip tightly when the alarm goes off.

You need it to muffle your gasp when the ship gets breached.

You need to continue gripping it tightly when the suspense is killing you.

You need it to pant into when Phae looses his V-card.

You need it to wipe.... never mind...

You need it to hide behind when it gets frikkin' scary and intense.

You need it to peak over to witness the mysterious meeting.

You need to hug it in despair when the lid closes.

You need it to hit your own head with it to distract you from (stupid) time jumps.

You need it to squeeze when it gets edge-of-your-seat suspenseful (again).

You need it to punch the senator for being the biggest motherfucker in the Universe.

You need it to catch your tears when help comes and the lid closes.

You need it to hug to stay hopeful.

You need it to bawl into when Phae says "How could I forget you? You are my Prince."

You need it to throw it into the air and whoop at the HEA!

A pillow "fight" BR with Julie, Momo and Elsbeth!

I love that we get dual POV :)

It's so intense, so overwhelming it almost hurts. Everything around me becomes black and buzzing, and in my head constellations and galazies explode.
I spiral down.
~Phae~

"Shit. Phae? Are you alive?"
Prince pats my face with his palm. "Oh my god. Have I killed you?"
~Prince~

Nope, you haven't, but he blacked out from your BJ there. LOL

"Phae, you too are special to me," I say, out of breath. "I think I---"
He puts a hand over my mouth. His eyes are big and scared. "I heard a noise," he whisperes.

I have a magic, powerful word. I use it. Under my breath, savoring it on my lips, I say, "Freedom."

It's scary and intense again!
I'm breaking out the popcorn.
