Angela: Asgard's Assassin (2014) #4
Angela Asgard's Assassin #4 - Kieron Gillen

Ok, this series just continues to be absolutely amazing. I seriously can't believe that beautiful balance that exists here between hilarious dialogue, gorgeous illustrations, and a brilliant storyline. I'll admit that this series isn't all fun and games. There's a lot of deep mythology surrounding Angela's existence, after all she is technically an Asgardian. Plus, Kieron Gillen and Marguerite Bennett aren't afraid to touch on a lot of topics that are important to our current society. They just do it in a way that makes for quite a ride, every single issue.

After all, where else can you find gems like this:

Symphonknee. *cracks up* Yeah, I laughed out loud when I read that. Plus the next piece of that panel reminds me of Grumpy Cat, which also made me laugh. Perfection.

This particular issue really pushes into the forefront the reason why Angela and Sera are on their particular quest. I kept wondering why they would put themselves so at risk. Why they would be willing to lose one another, again, for the sake of this child. Now that I know? Well, I'm on their side. Apparently so are the Guardians of the Galaxy, who do make a cameo in this issue. I LOVE Gamora, so this made me happy.

Angela: Asgard's Assassin #3
Angela: Asgard's Assassin #3 - Phil Jimenez,Kieron Gillen,Stephanie Hans

I told you that Loki would be back! Yes, he's back and, from what I can tell, just as mischievous as ever. The Asgardians are hot on Angela and Sera's trail, and I'm just eating this up like candy. Have I mentioned how beautiful Angela's armor is? Well, guess what. It gets even more glorious. Seriously, the art in these books is just so decadent. There are a few panels here though that I thought were a little off. One in particular, Sera's eyes were a bit off, and I'll admit that it bugged me. Eh, you can't be perfect all the time, right?

This issue also holds the beginning of Sera's origin story and oh, my heart hurts from reading it. I don't want to spoil anything at all, in case there are some of you out there that want to dive into this series. What I will say, is that these authors are excellent at incorporating so many important things into one issue. Sera's origin story is both gorgeous, and tragic. It's honest, and is going to be one of those things that divides people on whether it's acceptable. I love that. I do.

Onward! I'm alternating between these, a few things I borrowed from the library, buddy reads with Grim, and my NetGalley pile. This year has already started out amazingly!

Angela: Asgard's Assassin (2014) #2
Angela Asgard's Assassin #2 1-in-25 Mike Choi Variant Cover Edition - Kieron Gillen,No,Phil Jimenez

Let it be known, I'm in love with this series! Yup. It's official. If Angela wasn't enough to steal my heart, Sera has clinched the deal. These two are a match made in Heven, and I am hooked beyond belief.

I think my favorite part of this particular issue was two-fold. First off, Loki makes a cameo! His smooth talking, sarcastic demeanor set against Angela's no-nonsense attitude makes for some hilarious panels. I have to say that I'd love to see more of these two later on. While the Asgardians and Angela aren't exactly friends, my heart tells me that Loki doesn't really care. He's always on his own mission anyway.

The other part that is so great is that there's much more Sera, and I'm beginning to understand why she's so important to this story. She's the yin to Angela's yang. The one who reminds her that there is time for things, LIKE ICE CREAM.  There's always time for ice cream.

What's not to love about this panel?

*happy sigh*

Angela: Asgard's Assassin (2014) #1
ANGELA: ASGARD'S ASSASSIN (2014) #1 - Kieron Gillen,Stephanie Hans,Marguerite Bennett,Phil Jimenez

Okay, this has my interest. Hardcore.

First off, Angela is a total badass. What's not to love about a warrior angel, with her own mission in mind? Plus I absolutely love the way that she's drawn. Generally I'm not a fan of scantily clad characters, but good lord in heaven is she GORGEOUS. She looks like a real person, albeit an extremely well toned one ;).

What can I say? I'm a bit biased. I love everything I've read that Kieron Gillen has ever touched. He's my hero. It's like he eats, sleeps and breathes strong female characters.

This first issue was a bit of a teaser. It gave us some of Angela's background, set up her bad-ass attitude, and set the stage for the craziness to come. I can't WAIT!
