Guess gearing up for spring vacations and summer reading?
It’s summer vacation, and all seventeen-year-old Tori Logan wants to do is hang out with her two best friends, practice her mixed martial arts and go to FBI spy camp. Summer means freedom (mostly from adults) and Tori plans to fill every spare moment of her last summer before graduating from High School with all the fun things she and her best pals can come up with.
Tori, whose mom died of breast cancer when she was young, has always relied on her own strength to get by - especially because her Archeologist father tends to leave her behind with his live-in girlfriend while he gallivants around the world on digs. Thankfully, Tori can take care of herself. She knows exactly who she is and what she wants to do with her life. Her Lakota Sioux grandfather, a former Navy SEAL, trained Tori in self-defense from a young age. Now, as a teenager, Tori excels at mixed martial arts and the use of various weapons. During the summer she will be attending an FBI sponsored Summer Camp which she hopes will lead to her dream job – becoming an FBI serial killer profiler.
But while Tori is determined to be independent, life has other plans for this fierce young teen, and they include coming to grips with some hard - and surprising - truths about both her past and her future.

"The Balm of Love: Serenity Inn 3" by Nikki Walker
What I enjoyed from this read.
This is my third novel of this author's 'Serenity Inn series and indeed this was a very good read. I enjoyed this read featuring Eleanor, Terry along with Lindsay and Chad story. As I was reading this story I had to stop and say wow this is a good read. I loved how this author was able to give the reader such a good story featuring Eleanor and I loved her transformation...showing that anyone can change if they really desire to. Forgiveness can be hard but if it is asked ....then all there is ....is to forgive. I loved how this story deals with forgiveness and even redemption and how it worked for Eleanor, It wasn't easy but the story really gives the reader something to think on long after the read. I was kept on the edge of my seat as we see Eleanor trying to be a better person but will Terry ever forgive her? This read is a very powerful one and I don't want to give too much away...other than saying you must pick up this well written story and see how well this author delivers it so well to the readers. Wow...what a touching story where we see a person in the healing process as she seeks forgiveness from those she had wronged. The big question will be ...will Terry forgive Eleanor...in all that she had put this poor man through? Had Eleanor really changed and could she be trusted now that she had entered back into Chad's life trying to prove she wasn't a quitter? Then as the story continues... there was Lindsay and Chad in all that they were going through,,,with the babies and the TTTS [Twin Transfusion Syndrome]. Will there be some blame from Lindsay and Chad? What will come of it all as Chad and Lindsay visits to Terry's Wilderness Lodge and now they are all together [Eleanor, Terry, Lindsay and Chad]? Will Terry ever be again to forgive his wife whom he had loved since junior high school from all she had done to him and his family?
So, as you read through this novel to the end....the reader will get quite some story about what happens when one truly forgives. This was a excellent story that I would definitely recommend...and even though this is a standalone read...I would highly recommend that if you haven't read the rest of the Serenity Inn series by this author....I would go back and do so. You will not regret it at all!
Thank you to the author for a well written series!
I was not a huge fan of this one, unfortunately. It’s a retelling of HC Andersen’s “The Emperor and the Nightingale”, but the way in which it was a retelling didn’t work for me. However, I think my biggest issue is that I’m not sure it works for the target audience. I’m all for complex, difficult books for kids, but I don’t think this one is interesting enough.
