Μελαγχολικό και σαφώς ιδιαίτερα ατμοσφαιρικό το συγκεκριμένο graphic novel, με εξαιρετική εικονογράφηση, που μεταδίδει δυνατά, ηθικοπλαστικού χαρακτήρα συναισθήματα και μηνύματα.

Εντούτοις το θεματικό μοτίβο που διαπερνά το έργο είναι το πλέον αγαπημένο της λογοτεχνίας -το δίπολο ζωής και θανάτου, το φαινόμενο της πεταλούδας, η αξία ακόμα και των πιο ασήμαντων καθημερινών στιγμών- και καταντάει κοινότυπο αφενός επειδή συναντάται συνεχώς και με παρόμοια φόρμουλα, αφετέρου κυρίως επειδή δεν ενέχει άλλο σκοπό πέρα από την αυτοπροβολή του. Οι ήρωες δε λαμβάνουν καμία εξέλιξη, όσα χρονικά άλματα κι αν συντελούνται στο κείμενο, αποτελούν μονοδιάστατες προβολές μιας ιδανικής-εξιδανικευμένης κατάστασης, ενώ η πλοκή μαγεύει για την εμμονή της στο ρεαλισμό και ταυτόχρονα κουράζει με την τάση της να επαναλαμβάνεται.

Beautiful and non-linear, I liked this book a lot.

The structure of showing the same man's death at different points in his life is an interesting one. It's enough to make an engaging and possibly thought-provoking book.

And in some cases, the right people can run with that concept and turn it into a brilliantly profound work.

The art, first off, is great. It evokes emotion and life, and it's just plain nice to look at. The story, the thoughts on life and death and stories themselves, that's what makes this graphic novel a brilliant piece of fiction. It's powerful, aided by pitch-perfect writing. It's memorable and beautiful and is as hopeful as it is melancholy. I loved this book.

Daytripper is a book that starts off quite simply and, to be honest, it ends simply. It's about Brás, an obituary writer turned author, and the cast of characters that make up his life; Ana, Jorge, his parents, his son, his dog. I'm probably understating it a lot.
