Train Wreck (Life Sucks Book 1) - Elise Faber

Train Wreck was like a breath of fresh air. It was so cute, light, sweet and funny and it was impossible to not be charmed by Pepper and all her adorkableness. She was honestly one of the most refreshing new characters that I have read in awhile. I think we have all felt like a train wreck of sorts at one time or another, and Pepper managed to make it feel okay to embrace that a little. Or at the very least accept it and still be able to face the day with a smile and a can-do attitude.

Pepper and Derek were really cute together. I liked the idea of these two both out trying to find their own way in life, free of the family expectations that don't quite fit them, and ultimately finding a new way together. Even if they were kind of fumbling through it at first, actually that might have been my favorite part.

This is the perfect little rom-com that pulls your right in from the beginning and has you rooting for these two to figure things out and make it work. It is a fun, quick read with laugh out loud moments. If you like contemporary romance with a side of comedy I suggest giving Train Wreck a try!

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Backhand (Gold Hockey, #2) by Elise Faber
Backhand (Gold Hockey) - Elise Faber Backhand (Gold Hockey) - Elise Faber

Elise Faber scores with BACKHAND, the second book in the Gold Hockey series.  NHL defenseman Mike Stewart is reunited with his childhood friend, disgraced Olympic figure skater, Sara Jetty.  She tries to push him away, but he is persistent is perusing a relationship with her.  This contemporary sports romance takes place in San Francisco.  It is suitable for new adult and adult audiences.

Sara is an interesting heroine.  She is a former Olympic gold figure skating medalist.  Her reputation is tarnished.  She can no longer participate in figure skating.  Luckily, she also has a passion for art and can pursue a career in that direction.  Unfortunately, her confidence has been shattered.  She undergoes a great deal.  I’m glad she had Mitch as a boss.  He’s good for her.

Mike is a good guy.  After gaining a bad-boy reputation, he decides to straighten out.  He is noble, persistent, protective, and a good friend to Sara.  I appreciate that he remembered so much about Sara and did thoughtful things for her.  I love that Mike and Sara grew up together in Minnesota.  I like their nick names for each other.  My heart broke that they both had disappointing families.

Elise Faber does a great job with the plot.  I like how Mike and Sara run into each other at the beginning of the story.  There are a lot of interesting things that happen that kept me engaged.  There are a lot of mystery and twists.  BACKHAND was skillfully written and entertaining.  The ending was thrilling, and the epilogue made the story feel complete.  I’m looking forward to the next story in the Gold Hockey series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ - Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch by Elise Faber
Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch - Elise Faber
I slept with the wrong twin.
And all I got for it in return was a broken heart.
Oh yeah, and a baby on the way—there’s that too.
But I’m determined to make it on my own. I don’t need a man, thank you very much. Not rich, charismatic, and decidedly flighty Rex Roosevelt, and especially not his twin brother, Justin.
No matter that the gorgeous former military doctor makes my heart beat a little faster . . . and all spots lower than that pay careful, careful attention.
None of that matters. The Roosevelt men are dangerous and I’m steering clear.
The trouble is, Justin refuses to leave me be.
And deep down, I don’t want to avoid him.
Deep down, I want to be even closer.

REVIEW BY MERISSA - Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch (Roosevelt Ranch #1) by Elise Faber
Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch - Elise Faber
Disaster at Roosevelt Ranch is the first book in the Roosevelt Ranch series, and tells the story of Kelly, a young woman from the town, and Justin, the ex-Forces Doctor who comes in to clear up his brother's mess. However, he soon realises that it is different from the usual messes, as he gets to know Kelly, and finds out she is pregnant.
You can see that this is a disaster just waiting to happen, but it is still compelling reading as you wait for the whole thing to erupt. Kelly and Justin are wonderful main characters, but there is a whole slew of other characters that are guaranteed to delight - including one 86-year-old lady who wears a cat sweater ;)
Whilst Elise Faber's Phoenix series (Fantasy/Paranormal/Romance) is still my favourite so far, I will definitely be reading more of her contemporary work - which is saying something for me!
Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt my reading flow, this book is full of drama and emotion, but nothing too bad. I would certainly recommend this brilliant book to wrap up warm with!
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *
