A good day!
The Lightning Stones: A Novel - Jack Du Brul
The Blumhouse Book of Nightmares: The Haunted City - Jason Blum

Being a bitch tenacious has its reward. Two more books approved through Edelweiss. Both denied me the first time I requested them.

The Boy Who Granted Dreams - Luca Di Fulvio

What a journey this book took me on. And I'm so very sad to see it ending. There were so many lovable characters in this story. I laughed, I cried, I hoped, and I wished that good things would happen to them.

The author did an incredible job going back and forth from the early years to present time. There were so many things going on in this book and not all of them were happy experiences.

I do think Ruth took a long time to get over her nightmare, but who's to say how that would affect any of us? I especially liked the way her nightmare ended.

And Sal, trying so hard to be the big ogre with that big soft heart of his. You can't help but love him.

This was a wonderful and very entertaining journey and you will truly miss out if you don't pick this one up. It will certainly be your loss.

Thank you Bastei Books and Net Galley for providing me with this free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. It was well worth the time it took to read.

REVIEW - Take Me For Granted
Take Me for Granted - K.A. Linde

3 Stars

description

Take Me For Granted by K.A. Linde is the first book in her Take Me series. This book also marks my first venture into the literary world of this popular author. While I can very much see that Ms. Linde is an incredibly talented author, this book fell a little short for me in its execution. I do believe that this is a case of “it’s me, not you”. I do like a novel with the bad boy/good girl trope; however, this one ended up just being a “good” read for me, nothing spectacular.

Aribel Graham is the quintessential good girl completely focused on her education at Princeton and equipped with her v-card at the ripe ole age of nineteen. Oh, and she somehow seems to be missing that brain-to-mouth filter and basically says whatever is on her mind. Ari’s goals are very one dimensional. Finish school and secure a good job. She has no time for anything else besides studying and focusing on getting good grades. Particularly, Ari has no time for partying, boys and anything that resembles fun. She definitely has no time for a certain foul-mouthed rocker who seems hell bent on getting in her pants.

Grant McDermott is the lead singer of a local Jersey band called Contraband who is most definitely enjoying indulging in all the “perks” of a rocker lifestyle. He’s a proud man-whore who loves them, leaves them and never looks back. Music is his sanity and his many vices are what keep the demons from his past at bay. When he meets a blunt and mouthy blonde at one of his shows who has the audacity to turn him down, Grant can’t help but be intrigued. After all, who would turn down his advances?

“You’re mine?”

“I’m your girlfriend.”

“No, Ari, you’re fucking mine.”

This is a storyline that has been done many times. Many, many times. Bad boy meets good girl, pursues good girl, good girl relents, bad boy wants to be a better man, angst and drama, then a happy forever. Or in this case, it was more of a happy for now. For me, nothing really made this book stand out. Like I indicated before, there is no doubt that K.A. Linde is a talented author. She wrote some very sweet scenes between the hero and heroine and the sexy times shared by the pair were wonderfully done. Although, my boy Grant did suffer from a serious case of blue balls until our innocent heroine finally gave up the goods. LOL!

This story fell short for me based on a few reasons. I had a hard time with a particular scene right at the beginning of the book. One of Grant’s band members does something that is absolutely deplorable and the fact that everyone was “ok” with what he tried to do flabbergasted me. I mean, really???? I even had a “what the hell” moment with how Ari responded to the said actions of the douche-bag band-member. The whole scene was just wrong and I had a hard time swallowing that pill. As the book went on and some misunderstandings occur between Grant and Ari, I felt the drama was a little over-the-top and could have been settled with a simple conversation. It just seemed so anticlimactic to me. I will admit that I did some skimming through the last part of the book.

All in all, Take Me For Granted was a well written book that likely was not for me. The book ends giving us a slight hint as some possible obstacles that Grant and Ari could be facing. I think fans of this author will enjoy this book. Will I be reading the next installment to this series? I am undecided at this point. I just may give it a go when the times comes.

“You’re my life raft in an endless ocean. You saved me from drowning. You saved me from myself.”

Take Me for Granted
Take Me for Granted - K.A. Linde TAKE ME FOR GRANTED was one of those books where I wondered if I was ever going to really like Grant McDermott. He lived up to his manwhorish ways and I couldn't figure out just how ManWhore Grant was ever going to work with bookish Aribel. But K. A. Linde did a great job of proving opposites attract. These two were virtually exact opposites, but together they fit and had explosive chemistry.

Aribel is a tough character to get into, mainly because she's so closed off. But there is a reason for that. Her wealthy, Boston society parents aren't overly emotional and pressure has been put on Ari to fit the mold of their expectations for her. Being the dutiful daughter, she buries herself in her school work. But underneath her tough exterior is a girl who hates the spotlight and uses her sharp tongue as a defense mechanism to keep people away. It works with most people, but the moment Grant sets his eyes on her he pushes her. And despite what she may say to him or how she might act, Aribel likes the attention. She likes that this hot guy is pursuing her. And she likes that he lets his walls down so she can see the real man he is.

I couldn't help but love Grant. Even when he was being a complete douchebag. He uses his charm, sex and alcohol as a way to deal with the pain and guilt he feels over his parents. It numbed him. But then Ari blows into his life and he starts to become someone different. I really loved him with her. He didn't let her stay so serious, but because of her he wanted to become more, even if he didn't know it at the time. Despite his manwhore past, he stopped all of that the minute he found Ari.

Ari and Grant didn't have a perfect relationship and their explosive chemistry often manifested itself into some spectacular screaming matches, but they worked at it and finally got it right.

I'm hoping the next book in the series is a continuation of Ari and Grant's story (based on how book 1 ended). While I enjoyed the other members of ContraBand, I think there is more to Ari and Grant's story and hope we get more. If we don't, this was still an great start to a new series and one I can't wait to continue.
