The Ghost and the Haunted Mansion - Alice Kimberly

Pen and Jack must travel back to Jack's time to find what is similar about one of his old cases to the current murder of the owner of Todd Mansion. With Seymour a prime suspect in the murder, it is up to them to save him.

I enjoyed this story. I always enjoy when Pen goes back to Jack's time. I love the 1940's. As Jack pushes her to find the connection between their cases and pushes her to develop more of her detecting skills, it's fun to watch her grow both as a person and a PI. There is humor as everyone mistakenly believe something is going on between her and Seymour.

For as many cozy mysteries as I have read I would think I would get who it was but until the end of the story I had no idea. Guess I'll never be a detective.

THE GHOST AND THE DEAD DEB BY Cleo Coyne (Alice Kimberly)
The Ghost and the Dead Deb - Alice Kimberly
Penelope has another author in her store and guess what?  She ends up dead, only this time not in the store.  Penelope decides, along with Jack, that she needs to solve the murder so none of her friends are railroaded like she almost was last book.  So she starts sleuthing again and getting in trouble.
I like Penelope and Jack.  There are some twists in her relationship with Jack that I really liked.  He is training her and she is getting to understand his 1940's lingo.  I like how Jack pushes Penelope, not only with the sleuthing but also with loosening up with her son.  I like the townspeople that Penelope has gathered around her.  I also am enjoying some of the romances that are in the beginning stages.  Her in-laws are jerks and I'm glad see stood up to them.
I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

THE GHOST AND MRS. MCCLURE by Alice Kimberly (Cleo Coyle)
The Ghost and Mrs. McClure - Alice Kimberly
Penelope Thornton-McClure and her son leave New York to help her aunt save her bookstore in Rhode Island.  What she does not know is that a ghost resides there who was murdered there in the 1940's, a gumshoe on a case.  His murder was unsolved.  Now another murder has occurred in the bookstore and he is there to help her solve it.  Will she believe him?  Will she listen to him?
This is good set-up for this cozy mystery series.  I love the 1940's gumshoe angle.  I love the old black and white noir movies set in that time so this is right up my alley.  I love that Jack uses the slang from that time.  I like the connection between Penelope and Jack.  There is chemistry there.  Too bad the gumshoe is dead but who knows what awaits us on their journey.
The secondary characters are interesting as they come around.  Some are a little too involved in Penelope's old life.  But I like the new friends she has made and I like her son especially towards the end of the book.  He finally comes to life especially when he finds a book connection for himself.
I cannot wait to read the next installment.
