Oh, I wanted to like this one. I really, really wanted to like this one. For one thing, the cover is flat out gorgeous, and the worldbuilding and characters were initially really engaging. But I felt like the early promise of something really unique turned into a story that just repeated the same tropes, with constant betrayals and plot turns that didn’t seem earned. And I was really distressed by the death of one of the characters [I have spoilery thoughts about this + representation]. Unfortunately, this one just did not work for me.
