Pray for Silence - Linda Castillo
Pray for Silence - Linda Castillo

I just googled how many people in Holmes County, Ohio, home to the fictional setting of the town Painter's Mill. Around 43,000 souls - just an itty bitty bit of a county.

Tell me ... how in the hell does a relatively small population get so many psychos! I only imagine with more books in the series, there are many more messed up and crazy killers to come. *slow blink* How? Why? Is the town some kind of cult breeding ground for depraved minds or is it built on an ancient cursed burial site. Kate Burkholder you need to get yourself some sage and salt and do a cleansing ritual asap.

Pray for a Brave Heart
Pray for a Brave Heart - Helen MacInnes

Danger was like cholera: it had an unguessable way of spreading.

Eh?

I take it that risk assessments are not high on the agenda of the agents in this story. Nor does this statement consider the limitations imposed on a waterborne bacterium...

Anyway, this book is not for me. The characters read like something out of a Western or out of a gritty American noir novel, and I am no fan of either.

Also, the setup seems to be very similar to other MacInnes stories: the MC is roped into an adventure by another character in order to liberate or retrieve something (which seems to be jewels stolen by the Nazis in this one), and then a woman character turns up with an odd agenda of her own.

Eat, Pray, Die by Chelsea Field
Eat, Pray, Die (An Eat, Pray, Die Humorous Mystery, #1) - Chelsea Field

Eat, Pray, Die by Chelsea Field is a funny, fast reading mystery.

I gave it five stars.

Isobel Avery aka Izzy is on her way to a job interview as an undercover poison taster. "In typical Los Angeles fashion, even the damn elevator was more glamorous than me."

"I patted my unruly, shoulder-length hair—a nervous habit I’d developed over twenty-nine years of experiencing it having a mind of its own." How well I could relate to this description. I've always described my own hair as "willful", just like I am.

She was hired. Her job is classified and she can't even tell her family. The man who hired her told her to get a makeover and a tan. She told him she didn't tan because of being a redhead and she was allergic to the spray-on chemicals.

I received a complimentary e-copy from the author. That did not change my opinion for this review.

Reading progress update: I've read 341 out of 341 pages.
Pray for a Brave Heart - Helen Macinnes

I´m not exactly sure what to say about this book. "Flawed and yet incredibly entertaining" sums up my overall reaction to this book.

The plot didn´t make a whole lot of sense and the reason for the main characters to be involved in the plot felt a bit random, I honestly don´t know the purpose of some being there.

It was an entertaning read, though, and I will definitely read another book by MacInnes.

Reading progress update: I've read 130 out of 341 pages.
Pray for a Brave Heart - Helen Macinnes

I´m really liking this book so far. The beginning has been a bit slow moving, but the almost claustrophobic atmosphere that the authors creates by this slow build up is amazing. Even the 14 year old girl, who our main character Bill has met in the hotel, has a suspicious feel to her.

And I love books that made me picture the European city they are set in. In this case it´s Bern and it goes on the list of the cities, I would like to visit at some point.
