The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book - Rudyard Kipling

by Rudyard Kipling

The next time someone starts going on about an author "telling" instead of "showing", I'm going to direct them to Rudyard Kipling. There's a reason why it's called telling a story and Kipling does an excellent job of telling us about each of the most important characters that populate the jungle in this wonderful classic story.

It is told in the tone of an old fairytale with almost an Old English feel, and the events are surprisingly close to the Disney version. I understand now why the other animals in the jungle stayed away from the monkeys.

The characters are very distinctive and well-developed. I have new respect for Baloo, who was depicted as a buffoon by Disney. The biggest deviation was Kaa the snake who co-operated with the other creatures more than was suggested in the animated film.

While I wasn't overly impressed with the poetry in the song lyrics that were interspersed with many of the chapters, the prose was very engaging and I felt myself drawn into the world of the animals. The primary difference from the animated film version is that Mowgli has much more interaction with humans in the later part of the story concerning him, then his story is followed by other tales of animals, starting with The White Seal. These tales include Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, a tale of a mongoose which has also been animated.

I felt that Kipling has a unique voice that made the reader feel the culture of India where most of the tales take place, although from the animals' point of view. I'm glad that I've read this classic book now and feel that the journey was very enriching.

Jungle: A Harrowing True Story of Survival in the Amazon - Yossi Ghinsberg

A riveting tale of adventure, hope, and ultimately defying death in the Peruvian Amazon. This is the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg as he sets out on an Amazon exploration adventure with 3 others and ends up on his own trying to survive for the next 3 weeks. I kept putting myself in his situation and quite frankly it scared the crap out of me. I have no desire to see the movie as I don't think it could come close to what I was imagining him going through while reading this. A nice piece of work...recommended for all.

Best time to visit Tadoba National Park for Tiger Sightings

WildTrails Recent Sightings - The One-Stop Destination for all your Wildlife Travels

Wildlife is totally engaging in Tadoba surrounded by immense beauty. The park is referred as the jewel of Vidharba. Tadoba is one of India’s “43rd Project Tiger”. Tadoba Tiger Sightings Tourists love to visit Tadoba for its tiger sightings,  Tadoba lake, Erai dam, Moharli, and Khosla village. The location of the Tadoba National park is also one of the main reasons to visit since it is only 2 hours’ drive from Nagpur.

The best time to visit Tadoba is probably the Winter season i.e [November-February]. However, Summer season i.e [March, April, May] is also considered as one of the best seasons to sight tigers. Despite the heat, this time is the best time to visit Tadoba since it is easy to sight animals near lakes and less vegetation increases visibility.

I would suggest you to visit Tadoba according to the TSI (Tiger Sighting Index). Tadoba’s buffer zone is doing as good as the Core zones.

Tadoba is renowned as the home for tigers, leopards, sloth bears, jackal, wild dog, sambar, cheetah, langurs, nilgai, etc.

There is a morning safari and there is a late-afternoon safari in Tadoba.  The right time to go for the safari is actually dawn and dusk – that’s the time when you can spot big cats walking around or resting somewhere in the jungle.

Core Gates of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve:-

Tadoba has 12 safari gates namely:

Kolara, Moharli (mohurli), Navegaon, Khutwanda (khutvanda), Pangdi, Zhari (kolsa) (Zari), Agarzari zone, Devada Adegaon Agarzari Zone, Junona Zone, Ramdegi – Navegaon Zone, and Alizanza Zone.

As there are 12 safari gates in Tadoba, its better to research about the distance between the gates before going for the jungle safari in Tadoba.

While Tadoba’s inner area is undoubtedly a beautiful area with great wildlife sightings and the beautiful lakes Telia and Tadoba also offer great sightings, getting a buffer pass isn’t easy at all. The buffer zones of Tadoba are also doing amazing in Tiger Sightings and recently one tigress was spotted with her 4 newly born cubs.

Tadoba highly recommended for all wildlife enthusiasts and wildlife photographers due to its easy accessibility and the highest tiger sighting index in India.

It is very important to plan the wildlife trip to Tadoba in advance so that to get a good tiger sighting with the best tiger tracker.

Park Closure

Tadoba remains close during Rainy Season i.e. from July to September every year. The park also remains closed on Diwali, Holi, and Independence day. Tadoba Core zones remain closed on Tuesday (both drives) and Buffer Zones remains closed on Wednesdays.
