Hope you all had a great summer! We finally got our hub/modem in the mail (what took you so long SKY?) and now I can return to the land of the internet. I did manage to get a lot of books read while I was away (20 actually-which doubles my entire list from January to prior to the move), most from my NOOK and the few paper books I bought after the movers came and took my real book piles away (they are currently sitting in Her Majesty's customs offices).
It was a couple of days being on base for us as a family to in process with the base library - something I wanted to make sure was done early, as having an 18 month old and a 3.5 year old in a two bedroom suite in base lodging was going to get old very quickly and I needed a place they could have fun in. Once we moved into our house, I got myself and the boy child library cards from the town library. I am slowly learning the ways of the British library system, but between the base's library, the town's library, and the access to the county's libraries and the national libraries (both for a fee), I feel like my book budget is going to get some much needed relief. Not to mention that the base library uses Overdrive, leaving me with endless options.
I also spent one week watching all four seasons of Downton Abbey....wow, what a show! I can't believe I avoided it for so long (I do the same thing with over hyped books). I can't really decide which is my favorite character. Of course, DA then led to an obsession with all things Edwardian/WWI/Roaring 20s eras; doesn't help that in early August Europe began the four year long anniversary of WWI. My reading material may reflect this new interest in the near future.
Over the holiday weekend, I went to see Miss Saigon in London's Chinatown. I have wanted to see this show since I was a kid and the original Broadway debut was advertised on our local channels (helps to live less than two hours away from NYC). Wow again - what a heart-wrenching story of love, war, and sacrifice. Needless to say, eye makeup ruined that night. So many of us (it was a trip arranged by the base's travel office) were moved by the performance (seriously well done for such a young cast - and diverse too) - 180 degree difference from our fellow bus travelers who went to see Phantom of the Opera (they looked mostly bored and tired - yep, this is me hating on Phantom).
And now I need sleep, for tomorrow I will start the reviews....hopefully won't eat up a lot of your feeds :D Goodnight everyone!
